Hi, semi-old sentient gloob! Welcome back to my workshop, where I stick ABS bricks together to make something new! Today, I bring forth my youngest creation, Redpaw!
And that is Redpaw. Seeing the feedback for my recent art dump, I am now aware that the color scheme is a bit strange. In the near future, I will be changing out the dark green for dark blue. HOWEVER, I will need to make a Bricklink order to do so.
And a quick update about my SelfMOC (this is relevant), I will hopefully be ordering him in the winter. Turns out, $150 is not enough for the thing with the shipping and tax, so I am saving another $150. Now, because I am saving, I likely can’t order those dark blue elements, since doing so can set back my SelfMOC’s eventual order even further.
Let me know what you think! What things (other than just the colors) do you think can use improvement?
I’d be more worried about the massive gap in the torso, honestly. The parts selection does well for the skeletal shaping, but that hole is wide enough to run a couple Bionicle swords through.
Agreed; that was the first thing I noticed about the MOC, and the biggest problem it has, in my opinion.
Besides that, though, it’s pretty good. The face is definitely the best part; it’s instantly recognizable as a cat, and the shaping is really great. The end of the tail is a little strange, though the rest of it is decent. The front legs are fine, and the unarmored CCBS joints on the back legs don’t bother me as much as I’d expect. Some of the minor details do bother me, like the front feet having exposed white bits or the placement of the palm-tree piece, but those aren’t very major.
Honestly, this isn’t as big a deal in MOC form. If it really bothers you, you obviously can change it, but I think this MOC looks great with the color scheme it has. It doesn’t have to resemble the fiction one-to-one, and I think that making your artwork of it less literal would improve it far more than just making the colors more natural. After all, in art, you don’t have to distribute the colors exactly the same as in the MOC, and you can make the colors flow together more naturally too.
I didn’t use normal foot elements since they made the front legs too long. I needed a solution that has the ball from the Rahkshi skins touching the ground, and this is what I came up with.

Dang… I’m sure you already know, but that’s a crazy amount of money. Gotta be dead certain about this thing.
Anyways, the shaping is pretty good overall. Front legs seem a bit long, but not the end of the world. It looks cat-like without feeling unrealistic. The gaps are a problem, obviously, but from certain angles it’s a very good cat. The head might be my favorite part.
Lucky for me, I’m still just a teen. No job, no bills, and nothing else to spend my money on. Because Bionicle is my life now, I use my only chachingos to buy my MOC.

I couldn’t figure out how to fill the hole in the body, so I abandoned ship. Do you know how to fix it?
You know, this is my first ever LEGO cat. I’m glad the face looks right!
Might be able to use some of those 4x4 car hoods mounted on brackets. Alternatively, if you can get a socket on one of those CCBS bones, you can mount some Technic panels too.
