Sea Strider

These immense denizens of the oceans of Aqua Magna lumber about the planet seeking food which they filter up through their tendrils. Some Matoran even build small settlements on their backs, making use of the mobility for trade.

Intended to be one of the organic creatures that inhabited the surface world of Aqua Magna that the Matoran had built a symbiotic relationship with; symbolizing their ability to adapt to the new world they had surfaced upon.

Got a lot of inspiration for this one from the Leviathans from the Titanfall universe (Titanfall and Apex Legends).

I love its alien look! Good job with making it look so organic, too

I’e seen the old upside-down Kalmah head technique quite a few times, but this has got to be my favorite utilization of it.

Wow, this is quite impressive. It does look pretty organic. I really like the tentacle mouth, great job!

The shaping of the body and underbelly is fantastic. The legs are less so, but there’s definitely some clever parts usage there. Really great fanon addition to the lore as well.

Excellent work all around.

Thanks! I had a ton of fun with color blocking and I think that’s what really sells the organic look.

I tried doing an upside down Kalmah head build before in the form of a titan with four arms and a tail like ten years ago, but never got around to getting past a WIP stage. This guy here was supposed to be me finally getting that old Kalmah head idea out of my system haha. Glad you like it!

Thank you!

Thanks, the underbelly was one of the tougher parts with the color segmentation transition. Out of curiosity, what about the legs doesn’t look right? I still feel like I phoned it in a bit on the feet and ankles, and the knees were really me just going nuts with boat studs since I had just learned about that connection. Just curious if your thoughts are the same or are on some other part.

Thanks!

That’s what I was going for so glad it came across as so!

Appreciate it!

Thanks, shaping was really what I was trying to practice with this build.

I posted this elsewhere and everyone is saying this too haha. I guess it’s the the Sea Treader creature people see a parallel to?

I could see this being in an art museum or something

Such an accurate assessment. This looks nicely organic. The smooth shaping helps with that, as do the tentacles.
