Set review: Ehlek

Ehlek just arrived today and he is a pretty cool set. I love the color scheme with the dark green, lime, and the like bright green marbled with lime. He’s very stable because of the use of the larger Piraka foot piece. I like how the weapons look kinda like his hands with the one on the squid launcher arm looking like he’s holding the launcher. I also like the unique build that is pretty different from basically every other set.

What I don’t like about the set is the : gappy torso but it doesn’t bother too much unlike, the squid launcher function because it barley works, The lime joints which are extremely brittle; now there is a silver lining to this, the lime joins used for his hands, feet, and head were released in 2001 and 2005 in lime so its possible to get them unbroken and the lime joints used for his upper arms came out in lime in 2005 so its possible to get those in good quality which I was lucky enough to get; but the joints used for his thighs, as far as I know, were only released in lime in 2007, which is a shame. Also the red axel and the orange squid stand out quite a bit against the color scheme of cool colors (Note: yes I do have the blue squid on the set which somewhat fixes the issue but its still a flaw of the set). I’ve heard some people not like that Ehlek is pretty bare but I personally don’t really mind it.

Please correct me if I got anything wrong and let me know what your favorite Barraki is and why, I love hearing peoples opinions on Bionicle sets

I’ve always wondered if those parts are more resistant to breaking compared to the longer versions added in 2005, as they’re thicker at the sockets than the long versions.

I don’t believe so but its possible.

Ehlek was my first Barraki back in 07 and I recall the shorter dog bones breaking just as easily as the other lime sockets

I really enjoyed Ehlek, I thought he had a really cool motif and fit the bill very well. I did, however, prefer Takadox as a set; his stature and posture really raised the creep factor and the overall shape of the set caught the mantis vibe more effectively than the othet five Barraki conveyed their animal inspiration in my opinion. Plus that face was just perfectly creepy and the glow in the dark gimmick was icing on the cake.

Totally agree with the squid launchers, wish I could get my hands on one of the prototypes. Heard those things were quite defensible

Yeah I’m currently piecing together Takadox so I will review him when his other pieces arrive. I’m expecting him to be better than Ehlek but we can only wait to find out.
