Are you okay, Builder?
You’ve been hit by, you’ve been hit by a smooth criminal
Ow
I present my Michael Jackson MOC based on the SmOoTh CrImNaL music video! I had a dream two days ago about the design process, so I brought it to life!
Note that this entire MOC is buildable IRL and aims not to use rare parts. However, some areas in the torso clip, so you might have to rework a few parts to make it work IRL. It is not too hard; I just didn’t feel like fixing it. Every other part of the MOC works just fine IRL. Also, the ankles are built weirdly to prioritize that leaning forward motion and leave the axle empty to connect to the stand. The hat brim looks better IRL.
It’s really weird seeing a suit adapted in Bionicle form without using any notable amount of CCBS or technic panels. Unfortunately that approach means he’s kinda lumpy everywhere.
Will we see a Thriller version of Michael anytime soon?
Greebles are cool, sure, but greebles have their place. Sometimes a thing that’s meant to be smooth should actually be smooth.
Take it from the guy whose self moc wears a suit; you want the suit to look as much like a suit as possible. Of course if I ever actually made an update to my self moc since it’s been a decade maybe I’d have the opportunity to put my words into action but I’m too lazy
I get what you’re saying, but I’m too stubborn about these greebles. In my personal preference, I keep the greebles. I fear I would make the MOC feel too modern using a lot of CCBS and the newer style of technic panel. I want it to be more
That’s certainly a style choice, but in that instance I feel like Michael Jackson in a suit is a poor fit for the artstyle. The old technic Stormtrooper has a very specific charm and aesthetic that’s hard to replicate with typical Bionicle pieces (or in this case, almost entirely Bionicle pieces).
Also, as a depiction of a Stormtrooper, it’s not that great. You’d need to lean into the aesthetic pretty heavily to have it come off the right way. And on the subject of leaning I just noticed the arm is disconnected in the leaning render
I remember as a kid playing MNOG and getting jump scared by the part where he gets snatched by the Nui-Rama. Nowadays, I laugh hysterically every time it happens.
…I’m not personally a fan of making LEGO creations based on real-life creepy individuals. Disregarding that, though, his legs and torso feel a bit over-textured, and with little cohesion to offset that. There are some good techniques scattered throughout the build, and I don’t dislike his arms… But, when I look at your MOC, I can’t stop thinking about the implications of the real-world person this is based on.
