State of the Contests Update

I don’t think it’s heated anymore, actually. The weirdos who came here to incite on Double’s behalf have stopped posting.

If nothing else, at least they get bored quickly. :stuck_out_tongue:

good… at least they are gone now

Insulting the opposition like this is only going to make them more difficult to work with

Okay now adios. Hopefully.

with that out of the way:

anyone else got some cool specific ideas we could implement for aiding the next contests?

No Metru torso mandates

What’s that? When you break a paragraph in half? But if I break it, how will it keep working?

We need a period beforehand to really dive into canonical materials and figure out all the details we can about a character. For example, we’ve done a lot of searching about Tuyet’s sword. We can then build the rules after we’ve collected every detail about the character.

For the fiftieth time, the Metru torso will not be mandated for Tuyet. However, I personally will only be voting for Metru builds or builds virtually indistinguishable from a Metru build.

wow, rude
we prefer to be called associates

That should been the case with the hagah too. No one’s saying a custom torso should be mandatory

I do not plan to join any of the incoming contests, but if I did jon an art contest, you would all end up with a massive refrence sheet regarding how the character moves, tiny details like how their weapons works, eye detail, extra behaviour that is unnescesarry add was probably borrowed from earth animals for some reason, head canons ect. instead of a normal action shot or something
and yes the level of detail would be Knight-verse level decent.

Greg said they all are Metru-Builds. Most mocs of them have been Metru-Builds in the past. Let the entiry Metru-Build debate die peacefully like it should.

It was necessary to mandate the Metru torso for the Hagah to prevent the team from being disjointed in appearance. I would have liked if Dag’s custom torso was approved, but allowing certain custom torsos that heavily resemble the Metru torso introduces subjectivity and blurs the line on what is allowable. Making it Metru torsos only was the easiest way, and the best option that could’ve been taken.

Where and when did he say that?

Edit: lmao was that sarcasm?

I don’t really consider you a weirdo. You and I had a somewhat productive discussion. I mostly refer to individuals who created accounts in order to cause drama in this topic, intentionally misunderstanding other users to stifle conversation and divert from the actual topic of discussion.

I don’t have much to add regarding this topic that hasn’t already been said by others, but something that caught my eye I wanted to address…

I wholeheartedly disagree.
The rhetoric I’ve seen time and time again, echoed by Meso and Eljay, mods, users on and off-site… Hell, have probably even said myself at least once - is: “this isn’t a building contest, its a canon contest”.
The goal is to determine the best canon appearance for a character, not a claim to fame - not to give everyone who hasn’t won one yet better odds next time.

Double’s two winning entries won because they were the highest voted entries, despite everyone’s apparent dislike for him personally, and the best representations of those characters according to this very community.

It’s clear the punishment for Double’s conduct (largely to quell the reactions of others to it, and it constantly being brought up) is that he’s no longer allowed to participate. Whether or not that is even fair is being debated back and forth.
How in the world would it be fair to then pass on that punishment to any individual who happens to have won, or win a future contest?

Maybe I’m speaking selfishly right now as I’ve currently spent quite a lot of time and money on my own mocs of future entries, but @doni’s version of Orde is by far my favourite take on the character I’ve seen so far, and I for one would be quite peeved if it didn’t have the chance to compete just because his Metru reskin won already… Same goes for @Kodiak, who’s Zaria and Kabrua mocs are fantastic! As well as @Mister-N and @Perp3tual, who are two of the best artists actively participating in this contest.

The only valid reason I think prior winners shouldn’t compete again in future (unless banned for something else) is if they themselves choose not to.

I think limiting the hagah contest to metru builds brought out an interesting challenge for participants and would definately be something I like to see in the future.

A couple of months ago I suggested a take on a metrutoran nui contest were entrants would build a metrutoran nui only with 1 copy of each of the 6 metrutoran.

Similar thematic contest could be done for other characters as well. At least I would definately enjoy the challenge of moccing within a theme.

The Metru Matoran Nui is actually a really good concept for a canon contest, now that you mention that. I hadn’t thought of it before, but it does appear in the story in a speaking role, and it was never visually depicted.

Right here from the Hagah cc rule topic:

You must never have heard of any of the previous canon contests from during BIONICLE’s run, have you? They were hosted in BZPower, which is famous for its heavy-handed moderation practices. This is comparatively merciful in that only one person has been recorded as barred.
