Studio Ghibli

Has made some really good movies. it’s sort of the Japanese equivalent to Disney. I haven’t seen all of them but I’ve seen Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, The Wind Rises, and Grave of the Fireflies. All really good films. Anyone else into Studio Ghibli films?

The only movie of theirs that I have watched was My Neighbor Totoro and that was quite a few years ago

I’m also into Ghibli. It’s sad that they’ve stopped making movies, but all their films I’ve seen (Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Pom Poko, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, The Secret World of Arietty, and The Wind Rises) are all excellent.

I’ve only seen Castle in the sky, but it was amazing!

They haven’t stopped exactly, they’re on a hiatus because Miyazaki retired after The Wind Rises.

They’ve effectively stopped. Both of the original founders of the company have left (if I’m not mistaken), and they don’t really have any plans to continue making films, so while they may eventually come back, they aren’t going to be making anything new anytime soon.

His son (Goro Miyazaki) is continuing making movies. His movies aren’t quite as good. Still great animation though.

I haven’t watched any of their films, but I’ve been wanting to forever.

I saw Princess Mononoke and ofc, the weirdest childhood movie I ever watched - Spirited Away. I always thought I just dreamed the movie when I was little. Only few years back I found that it was a real movie and not a dream.

My older sisters had most of the Studio Ghibli movies. My two favourites were Porco Rosso and Castle in the Sky.

Isn’t she the spitting image of beauty?

Howl’s moving castle, one of the coolest Miyazaki films ever!

I think I may have seen Howl’s Moving Castle when I was younger but I might be mixing that up with Castle in the Sky.

@Baldric Going to watch it soon
