Super Mario Brothers

LOL!!!

Wut

This is disappointing to me on so many levels.

Wow… just WOW…!!! I don’t know on whether I should laugh at this or be really upset about this here!

You should laugh, man.

It was meant to be funny. :]

This video really captures the nostalgic feel of Super Mario 64, amirite?

Man I do love me some Super Mario Bros. The GBC port Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is what got me started. That game is the perfect template of what a port should be. Everything in the original game plus challenge modes, multiplayer, and unlockables.

That sounds like a good idea.

But I want a Super Mario Sunshine HD remake already with Luigi,Wario, & Waluigi in it.

Why not both?

So this has been a good E3 for Mario this year.

We have an incredible trailer and so much new features with Mario and his awesome cap. Also, apparently Pauline is making a return to the main Mario games after a long absence. This excites me so much. Also that song in the trailer is sooooooooo good.

Also, apparently one of the best Mario RPGs is getting a remake for the 3DS, Superstar Saga. I’m happy about this, actually. Plus, it comes with a strategy game called “Bowser’s Minions” which looks incredible.

And then we have this thing… Um. I don’t know what to say to this.

I had mixed thoughts on the Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

The part I was most excited for was Rosalina, so of course they gave her only one good scene, and then that entire scene ends up in the trailer. Then, they turn her, the one princess who has never been a damsel in distress in the Mario games, into the only damsel in distress in the entire movie. She was the part I was most excited for! Apparently, Samus’s gunship was visible at one point; they should have just had Brie Larson play her instead, since she has expressed interest, and Rosalina had less backstory in the movie than the guest character from another franchise, so there wouldn’t really be much loss for the movie.

Yoshi was cute but rushed, and I wasn’t a fan of his New York scenes. Peach was great, while Mario, Luigi and Yoshi’s adventures were far more meh. The music was good, but they didn’t include Bowser’s Road (or if they did, not prominently enough for me to hear without listening to the soundtrack), one of the best Mario game themes.

I liked the stakes and pacing better than the last movie, but there still wasn’t a lot of plot. And yes, it is the Mario series we are talking about, but how is it that Rosalina got more development and meaningful screen time in a game from the Wii than in a feature film? And I’m not a fan of her and Peach being sisters; I’ve always subscribed to the Game Theory that Rosalina is Peach and Luigi’s daughter from a different cycle.

Nothing against Benny Safdie, and I’m sure he’s great in other roles, but he was not the right pick for Bowser Jr. No voice actor can do a concincing Jr. but middle-aged women, after all. The resolution was rushed, and Jr.'s plan was less developed than the Second Death Star.

Honestly, the only real good parts of the movie were the easter eggs (heh) and the music. Fox was decent but underused; they’re definitely setting up a spin-off. The Mario Maker section was fun, as was Peach beating up the 8 bits from Super Mario Bros 2 and the Super Mario Bros 3/Super Mario World-style world map scene. I have no feelings on Daisy in the post-credits scene; she was inevitable, after all. I’m honestly just surprised they didn’t do it sooner.

They left out Polari. This is an unforgivable crime. Prepare the Ninjis.

EDIT: So, listening to the soundtrack, it did include Bowser’s Road from Super Mario 64, but for less than ten seconds, and only the intro! How could they leave out the best part!

If I must survive such a film (and purchase Super Mario Galaxy soap), so be it. They shall remain strides forward to that blessed hour of the “Super Smash Brothers: The Motion Picture” of which I shall be seated with a copy of Brawl in hand.
