The Apohka (Fanon Contest 2: Dinosaurs of Bota Magna)

Slight modifications have been made on the neck
Apohka Studio model with modifications

Studio file for both dinosaurs

While I’m not truly happy with Apohka (that would be the apatosaurus), as it has a plethora of problems (hollow torso, awkward hump, rough transition from ccbs neck build to rahkshi spine etc.), I’m actually really proud of myself for making such a big model and not crumbling to dust in the process. (It was an odd decision to make the legs first and torso last though…)

Awesome  really awesome, I love the armor plating. The whole design also has a very Horizon feel to it. Great job.

Very nice. Certainly looks like a Bionicle version of a dinosaur.

This is beyond cool. Very appropriate for those last years of Bionicle. The Thornax launchers and life counters are nice touches that add to the ‘09 nostalgia. I really like this.

I will say though, I’m a little disappointed by the head. The Rahkshi parts in particular feel sorta out of place and slapped on.

This definitely belongs in the Large category. The shaping is really good, both in terms of making the parts fit together, and in terms of the overall shape of a sauropod.

“they saw a apatosaurus. It was majestic. After a while other suggested they give it a high power laser for an eye. Other one agreed and wondered what took them so long to realise it”

How’s the articulation in the legs?

Seeing as I had enough time, I went ahead and switched out the Rahkshi spine for a more proper neck end.

I gonna take this opportunity to ask you guys about whether or not I should do something to the head. It feels a bit off to me right now.

  • Keep head as is
  • Remove laser eye
  • Try making a new head

Hope this image gives you a good enough look at the joints. The articulation should be good

Looks much better!

Perhaps the head could use some work. I like it enough though, personally.

Please keep the laser though, it’s so charming.

Yeah I like the laser too

Woah! That’s so cool! It reminds me of the strutters from Dinotopia. Splendid job!

An improvement for sure. This most recent render gives me a new appreciation for the head as well

Both of your entries are very solid; good luck :ok_hand:

Those who are (somehow) still interested in the Apohka can now watch Duckbricks’ review on it!

I also went ahead and made a quick fix for the models neck connection, seen below:

It’s a bit late, but I’d like to thank everyone who liked and/or commented on this post and supported this model back in 2022. It means a lot to me! <3
