The Beatles

For what it’s worth, don’t forget the Beach Boys, who shared a lot in common with the Beatles and are also considered one of the “foundational” rock groups.

Indeed.

Also, as to the question of what genre the Beatles qualify as, let me just say that no matter what genre you consider the Beatles to be, they were extremely creative and made “more than their fair share” of excellent music.

A good percent of anything decent from the 60s

I mean, yeah, there was the Stones, among other acts, but let’s be real here.

The phrase “Beatlemania” didn’t come from nowhere.

I’ll have you know that I have 560 songs on my 60’s playlist, and only 50 or 100 of them are by the Beatles. XD

Yeah, there were loads of amazing artists in the 60s. I really enjoy Love, the Zombies, the Byrds, the Doors, and Cream.

I must preface my statement by saying that I made a mistake. I consider “Rock 'n Roll” to be stuff like Elvis, and that kind of thing that was popular in the 50’s and early 60’s. Rock, on the other hand, is music like Zep, or GnR, although I don’t think AC/DC or GnR were metal, that’s a bit of a stretch. So by this definition, the Beatles could have been Rock 'n Roll however I still classify them as 60’s pop music. Although you could argue that, by definition, Pop Music is what is popular at the current time and at that time Rock 'n Roll was the Pop music but eh. Whatever.

I still personally don’t classify the Beatles as straight up Rock or Rock 'n Roll, although I do agree that they contributed greatly to music as a whole, as @John_Smith said.

Also on the topic of great bands of the 60s. The Jimi Hendrix Experience, of course. =P Jimi didn’t headline Woodstock for nothing.

I only recently became a Beatles fan, but like most other bands I get into, I find myself becoming obsessed and trying to listen to all of their music.

George Martin, the Beatles’ producer, has passed away. :frowning:

I’ve never listened to The Beatles very much until I heard Come Together. Which is pretty addicting to listen to.

Love The Beatles. Not addicted, but I love their music. Especially Eleanor Rigby.

Ugh how did I not find this topic before…
I currently own all their main albums sans Yellow Submarine.
(That is, Please Please Me, With the Beatles, A Hard Day’s Night, Beatles for Sale, Help!, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Abbey Road, and Let It Be)
Plus the Red and Blue albums and 1.
…jeez. They made a LOT of music. I love all of them. I haven’t found a song by them I dislike.

Revolution 9? Wild Honey Pie? You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)?

That one probably comes closest…
I guess it’s one of those songs I’ll skip over shuffle, but it feels wrong to listen to the album straight through without it.

Oh, I forgot

Tomorrow Never Knows

That and Revolution 9 drive me nuts. XD

To be fair, it did get a Bond movie semi-named after it (Tomorrow Never Dies)

So there must be some people out there who like it. XD

Excuse me

That song is amazing. One of my favorites from their earlier days, and my favorite from Revolver, hands down.

Though to be fair I never truly appreciated until I heard the Love version (which mashes it with Within You Without You ), and 801’s live cover. Different strokes, I guess…
