I just randomly took a closer look at the duplo “airport action” subtheme from 2006, and I wonder what the designers were on while making and approving these sets, specifically the figures.
Why do they all have such weird, insane faces? They look really out of place with other duplo figures. Action Wheelers had some similarily wacky faces, but those looked funny - these ones are… mildly unsettling.
Another thing that stands out (to me) is the enormous use of stickers. See that truck there? Not a single detail is printed, it’s all stickers. It’s the same througout all airport action sets, and it’s very unusual for duplo. Y’know, this stuff is for 2 to 6 year-olds, they usually don’t have the right coordination to put on stickers (and they’d probably wear off quickly, too).
The stickers are a strange oversight for a toddler’s toy. That being said, those look like goated stickers, I love the font of the number and the checkers etc.
But the Pakari Nuva I find the most terrifying… like what kind of horror must have the wearer seen to make such a facial expression, that would deform the mask like that…
Honestly doesn’t bother me that much though, it’s their collection and it’s unlikely they would’ve sold any of this to begin with even if it wasn’t mutilated
