I am very happy about this.
It was originally one year, then expanded to three, and then indefinitely, until the cancellation.
Well, yeah, by the time they got that far, they’d expanded their three year plan.
That’s a good way of putting it!
At the same time, that means precisely this “Matrix” is missing from the Mahri Nui and Karda Nui era. Or rather, not completely absent, because it’s still present in the characters, but completely removed from the environment. Because a major part of the Matrix is indeed that everything comes in sixes, yet the environments of Mahri Nui and Karda Nui do not.
Also, it’s hard being an effective Toa of Fire while you’re fighting underwater. And in turn, whatever Toa was the one of Water or Air before, i.e. had a unique set of powers that differentiated them from the rest, well, if suddenly everyone can breathe underwater or everyone can fly, the others now have an advantage - because they still have their standard elemental powers on top of that new diving/flying skill. ![]()
It was one then three, but at some point I thought it was a 20 year story; but it definitely seemed to become “Let’s keep going while it’s selling. ![]()
I just thought of another cool plot point that could be added on to my whole hypothetical story future.
This one ties Mazeka into the whole thing: once Tuyet has defeated Marendar and started building her Empire, I could easily see Mazeka taking the opportunity to join the Empire and become a Toa. We know from Reign of Shadows that he believed the Toa should have been slightly less merciful in their defense of the universe, and this would be his chance to do it himself.
Of course, he wouldn’t know about the full extent of Tuyet’s plans; he would be under the impression that the Empire was fulfilling the same goals as the original Toa, just with a little more permanence to their victories. Once he learns of Tuyet’s “pre-emptive strikes”, I could also see him deserting the Empire.
Or maybe he leaves when Tuyet inevitably orders the elimination of Melding Teridax.
Additionally, if you wanted to keep the Vultraz/Mazeka rivalry alive, you could have Vezon bring Vultraz back from the alternate universe, perhaps while Vezon is on his hypothetical journey to return all of the restored Shadow Takanuva. Maybe one of the restored Takanuvas even gives his Toa Power to Vultraz, for some reason.
And while I’m sharing ideas and “theories”, here’s one more that I’ve been sitting on for a while now.
It’s always kind of bugged me (and others, I’m sure) how convenient Tuyet’s return to the main dimension was; after wandering throughout the infinite amount of alternate universes for thousands of years, she comes back to this one just at the right time time to be useful?
But what if it wasn’t an accident? What if Tuyet was brought back by Vezon? If you’re willing to fudge the order of some of the (completely unrelated, mind you) chapters in Reign of Shadows, he could even have done it as part of his deal with the Cursed Great Being.
Now Tuyet’s return changes in meaning, from being a complete accident, to her being drawn into whatever the Cursed Great Being is planning. And that plan could include all of the things she does in the rest of my hypothetical continuation.
I too think Marendar is first to go or is imprisoned. But I’d think he would kill toa tuyet. As a show of “even strongest of the toa is powerless against him” and it would be one faction less in a very large story.
I do like if Agori and glatorian help to defeat Marendar.
If Marendar disapears during his battle against united forces, in a explosion etc, his badly injured body could be found by dark hunters. TSO would certainly like to have a servant like Marendar under his rule. And in exchange TSO will most likely kill the toa.
Turaga Onua has a nice ring to it.
We also learned he tought toa had a code and he didn’t have to listen to it since he was not a toa. I got the feeling if he became a toa he would adbide to the toa code, if grudginly
Melding teridax is totally his buddy and worth saiving. ![]()
If he comes back he will be toa of shadow. I agree.
Edit: Lariska will rule dark hunters after TSO. She will declare TSO lead Dark hunters to ruin, first with war against metru nui, then against the broterhood, and finally against spherus magna. She will concentrate on profit and not world conquest
one plot point i’d have loved to see take shape would be the divided view of mata nui between the now mingled societies. to the matoran universe he was their revered god and all their lives were centered around him. to the agori and glatorian, who dont remember his creation, he was just a hero and friend. the concept of those on bara magna seeing mata nui as an equal and not revering or viewing him as the matoran/toa did, i could see it leading to some tensions or differences in mindset between them.
oh and also somewhere down the line, mata nui’s spirit speaks from the ignika and puts helryx in her place. feels like he’s the only one that can do that and she’d keep her mouth shut
I think the next big thing the bionicle community should do is continue the story with inputs from Greg and have comics made of it and stop motion movies. And Mocs that could be like new sets that have instructions for them so everyone could build them. Just imagine finally seeing a new wave of bionicle dinosaurs like we were supposed to get. Would be a pretty big undertaking but totally possibly if everyone chipped in.
