The Dark Hunters' Instructions

Dang! Wish I could have all of them! Unfortunately, I don’t know that I could build any of them, given the parts I have and the cost of ordering the right sets…

Also, what’s the name of the dark hunter with the Avokhii? And does he really look like that in the story?

The Dark Hunter that uses the transparent Avohkii piece is named Ravager.

What, specifically, are you referring to?

Ravager’s only appearances are in the Dark Hunter guide and the updated Encyclopedia, so that picture is what he looks like; there’s nothing that overrides or contradicts it.

The Avokhii on his head. I was just wondering if that’s how his face looks, or is it a fake Avohkii, or just something cool to use?

Since the story states that only one Mask of Light ever existed, that is. It may be that LEGO just used that mask piece to give him a cool looking head, I suppose.

This is the answer, though it was a fan that made the choice, not Lego. Most of the Dark Hunters were designed by fans for the Dark Hunter contest.

Ravager does not physically have a Avohkii in canon. But his face bears the same design features as an avhokii in universe

Ok. Makes sense. It looks real good.

Looks great seeing them all together like this. In the very far future I hope to have them all as well.

do you have the dark hunters who got sets? (Like Nidhiki)?

are you aware that there canonically eight hordika dragons?

Yes I do have all of the official dark hunter sets (I own every official Bionicle set and I am working on the contest and combo models ). They were just on there own shelf when building these. I am still debating if I want to build all 8 of the hordika dragons. I am gong to wait until this summer after I get some more room to display the figures before I build them all.

ah ok neat.

What! Are you @Eljay in disguise? I didn’t know that anyone had all the Bionicle sets!

There are a few of us out here with all sets. I’m working on all masks and kraata now. Just completed all krana. I’ve also completed all contest rahi except the Kanohi Dragon, I’ve only got about 40% of that thing built.

Wish I could get a few of the Titans. They’re too expensive for me to buy on Ebay right now, and I’m looking for a Hydraxon or 2008 Takanuva. I can always wait a few years, though.

Duckbricks has every set (and most canon models):

I would love to have the time and money/pieces to have all of these.

that include wm/vm/cmkk?

No, I only have all 144 standard colors. If I ever come across the rarer ones and can buy them, I will.

Hey all! I figured that since most people are likely to gravitate here when looking for instructions and such for the Dark Hunters, that this would be a good place to mention this. I also figured that since some of the instruction makers and even DuckBricks himself have contributed to this thread, that it may help spread more awareness.

It has come to my attention that the majority of Dark Hunter pics used by LEGO in the Dark Hunters book were actually mirrored and so a few of these instructions are inaccurate to the original MOCs (mostly those who have asymmetric builds). Some of the images were fixed in other publications such as the updated encyclopedia, but there were still quite a few that weren’t corrected.

Below is a rundown of the mirrored MOCs whose instructions are slightly inaccurate due to this flub:

  • Amphibax – The Rhotuka ripcord teeth reveal that his whip is on his left hand, not his right (the image was corrected in the updated encyclopedia and the Makuta universe guidebook).
  • Conjurer – The Rhotuka Launcher shape/orientation reveals that it is on his left arm, not his right (this was never corrected in any other publications).
  • Kraata-Kal – The original builders’ photos for the MOC reveal that his weapons were on opposite arms (this was never corrected in any other publications).
  • Minion – The original breakdown instruction photos from the builder reveal that the blue and green colours are actually on the opposite sides from the official image (this was never corrected in any other publications).
  • Savage – Judging by the image being flipped in the encyclopedia, it would appear that Savage’s arms are in the same orientation as the regular Toa Hordika sets, meaning his geared cannon arm is on the right and the claw-hand is on the left (which actually makes a lot of sense, given that he is also a Toa Hordika).
  • Seeker – The molded slots on the Lhikan blades used for his legs (the slots used to combine two of them into a board) reveal that the image was mirrored, and as such, his staff-holding hand is on the right, not the left (this was corrected in the encyclopedia).
  • Tyrant – The original prototype photos taken by the builder show that his cannon arm is on the left (this was corrected in the encyclopedia).
  • Additionally, we are yet to get more accurate instructions of Silence based on the original MOC, as this was one that LEGO heavily butchered the build of. The original eye colour was yellow, not orange, the gun was build differently and he’s missing his chest plate. I’m also convinced that the Bohrok window piece is somehow attached via the inner pin-hole, not the outer one (builder’s original photos for context).

Anyways, I hope this helps in some way. I know a lot of this stuff is rather miniscule and could be easily remedied by building the affected parts/limbs in reverse of the current instructions, but I figured if I get the word out there, then maybe some of these inaccuracies could get corrected in the instructions themselves too.

EDIT: I forgot, the Hordika Dragon. The Rhotuka ripcord reveals that the image was also mirrored, meaning the Toa Hordika Matau arms are assembled on the same sides as the original set (geared arm on the right, smaller Mata arm on the left). This was also among one of the images that never got corrected in subsequent publications.

I’m seeing two clear errors in the instructions for Ravager that are shown here.

The first is his wings. The instructions show the wings attaching to this hole:

While Ravager’s official image shows them connecting to the end hole:

The other obvious difference is the tail. While the official image doesn’t show what’s at the end of his tail, it’s clear that it’s longer than in the instructions:

Who was the original builder of Phantom?

Casey Kinsey, but it’s not Phantom. The original essay and the Phantom article doesn’t match up as much as it should.
