Should I get any of the Elder Scrolls games, which would y’all recommend I play first?
Play in order: Morrowind (and its DLCs), Oblivion (and its DLCs), and Skyrim (and its DLCs).
Arena and Daggerfall did not age very well and dont have as a good story to justify playing through the slog.
Ary and Daggy’s storys will get told to you in the later installments. Morrowy, Obli, and Skyro are best experienced by actually playing them.
The spin off titles are OK to use but their storys are pretty inconsequential in the long run. (Battlespire was mentioned once in later titles and Redguard was never mentioned in later titles).
I’m going to be completely honest here, and not let nostalgia get in the way. Skyrim is the one you should play first, specifically because it’s the easiest to get immersed into. Oblivion and Morrowind are both wonderful games, but on the visual side they haven’t aged all that well (especially Oblivion, yikes!) and on the gameplay side Oblivion has some pretty clunky and undesirable controls, while Morrowind likes to beat the crap out of you until you find a way to beat it at its own game in the start. While Skyrim is considered too streamlined by some, I personally think that’s what makes it easier to get into, and requires you to suspend your disbelief a little less as a gamer.
Morrowind is what I view as a hardcore TES experience, while Skyrim is a mandatory entry way title. It does a lot right, and even then has an immersive soundtrack and atmosphere. The dialogue in the game is memorable and so are the quirky characters. Morrowind has a great plot, but lacks NPC depth.
With morrowind you have to beat it by using fourth wall breaking strategy. (I.E. cheeseing the AI, memorizing loot locations, etc)
You can’t win it just by roleplaying a character (or rather you can but it will be painful)
Skyrim is probably the best start though. If you become a diehard you will probably start to prefer older titles but the ease of use will help get into it easier.
Story of Morrowind is the best out of the modern ES, but Skyrim is easiest to play because of modern conveniences. Oblivion is somewhere in between. but Skyrim is not the mandatory entry, that would be Oblivion (mainly because it set in he heart of the Empire, and the story of Skyrim follows the events of Oblivion, and you will be kinda lost if you started Skyrim in some way without knowing the events of Oblivion, that is if you dont read the in-game lore books).
But all three are very much worth playing through…if someone has the time. Even one game is time consuming. I would always suggest all three modern ES games, but if you are spoiled by modern conveniences, then Skyrim is the way to go, but some things wont be clear with the first playthrought, specially the things that continue the story of the previous games.
But I wont deny it, Skyrim made all the races look good.

So start with Skyrim. Sounds good as it should be the easiest to find.
I found all 3 at a wallmart not too long ago.
Yeah, I agree with what everyone else said. Morrowind is my favorite now, but Skyrim is what got me hooked. Make sure to get the Legendary Edition, which includes the (gigantic) expansions.
It is worth noting that Skyrim has a much darker tone to it than the prior titles.
While the older ones still had the more mature concepts skyrim is generally more up front about it. (The primary exception to this is a certain place in Suran).
In the earlier titles the darker stuff was only there if you really paid attention to the implications. Skyrim stops implying and starts being up front about it.
The darker content from before was also mitigated by the more generous amounts of humor. For instance in morrowind there was a good amount of very funny dialogue while Skyrim dialogue is pretty serious and to the point.
Just thought I’d add that.

[/quote] Assuming you had the patience to read all of the dialogue in the first place, despite the clunky dialogue menus and the generally confusing UI. Morrowind has good dialogue, but it’s a pain to deal with the layouts and font style.
For good reason too, lore wise the Nords are supposed to be a serious no-nonsense race of people.
Do they still sell it at retailers?
I’m not 100% sure, but I think so. It’s getting a bit old, but it was a HUGE hit. You might also be able to find the TES Anthology if you’re willing to go all-in.
Not quite yet. I’ve seen several LP’s of Skyrim (never all the way through as I don’t wish to spoil much of anything) and my only exposure to Morrowind is the play-through you’re doing with Slurm. I haven’t checked out Oblivion yet.
Come to think of it, Skyrim actually requires you to have a Steam account if you’re playing on PC. If you are gonna play it on PC, I’d say your best option is to wait for the summer sale and nab it for $12. Though if you’ll be playing on a console, disregard that.
I play on PC, but I do nothing at all with my Steam account except play Lego Marvel Superheroes
That’s interesting. Lately almost any game requires a steam account, and almost all of the time nowadays you have to download the game, since companies hardly put any of the files on the actual disks that come with “physical copies”. It’s a pain for me, because it forces me to download at 4:00 in the morning to avoid using my on-peak data. It also means that uninstalling and reinstalling isn’t as simple as it was back in the day.
I know this is an age old debate, but I feel that twists are too heavily done, and most of the time replace actual narrative and true plot progression all for the sake of a “surprise”. Skyrim’s story wasn’t amazing, but I wouldn’t say it was anything less than good. Morrowind had an amazing story, yes, but Skyrim has better showy boss battles, and as a gamer… boss battles are sweeeeet.
