THE ELITE SIX (BIONICLE Canon Contest #3: Honor Guard, part 2)

I thought we were judging the mocs here not iruini or norik, since you know they are not MOCS. I remember the rules especifically said somewhere that artwork did not had to be full body renders, that is why I didn‘t include kualus’s left arm, and we already know how the shield looks anyway

I have seen other Art Entries where limbs and entire chunks of the MOCs have been blocked due to the positioning of characters in a scene or due to background details/objects and yet they haven’t been called out. Would that be considered an omission of parts in that case? The Artist here is not intentionally omitting parts of the MOC in order to significantly alter the aesthetic. It is simply the way the artwork was composed.

Not all entries are being notified at the same time, so if there are some entries which you think need some adjustments, it is quite possible they will be notified eventually.

It’s the same shield as the others, how is this even omitting a detail? any person would be able to tell what kualus’ shield looks like from context clues.

Not to mention the fact that this art doesn’t show them from the knees down, arguably a far greater ommission, so why is the shield an issue if the legs aren’t?

Who are these rules for?

If you look at the rules it says:
“ We encourage entrants to illustrate full-body renders of the group, however it will not be mandated.”

So what has that suddenly change? Am I going to get the hammer because I didn‘t show their legs? In that case many entries should be desqualified.

Explanations of the other decisions are coming, but we want to make it clear right now that the legs are not an issue.

Wasn’t the point of including Norik and Iruini only so we could have a full team photo to put on the “Toa Hagah” wiki page? So why do they need to be ‘fully equipped’? They’re just there as team filler, we aren’t canonizing them.

While we’re regretful you weren’t advised earlier, the way things stand now is that you are being notified. If you need an extension, we can look into one. You’re also not being requested to add full shields to these characters, just indications that they exist on them (like you already do with Norik, Gaaki, and Bomonga). A shield showing through on Iruini’s back, or part of one on Kualus’ arm would be fine.

So while we apologize for the delay in notification, that’s really about it. It’s unfortunate that it took so long, but we’re here now and we’re making this request so your entry can move forward.

Imagine for a moment that we’re canonizing an image of the Toa Mata, and Gali is illustrated without her hooks. Gali has hooks, but the image doesn’t show them. That’s the situation that is attempting to be avoided.

So no word yet on this?

You did sort of answer the first part, affirming that it is an issue and should be corrected, which I understand and somewhat agree with, but then Blue should have to correct it too. That is, again, unless it is exempt due to being out of frame, but in that case, B3njix shouldn’t have to fix Kualus because its the exact same situation.

EDIT: As you also said, a shield could simply be added to their backs, so I don’t see how having their hands out of frame would be a valid exemption, so there is no reason Blue shouldn’t have to fix Norik and Iruini, if the ruling on B3njix’s entry is the standard. That should be corrected on the response to Blue.

I’ve had a second response telling me to fix Iruini only.

Given this is a topic of apparent debate, I await a final say.

Looking at the topic, whatever is being requested by anyone with the custom title “Canon Contest Entry Auditor” are official requests.

I just want to know when they’re done making requests.

The debate is over. This is the final say regarding the shields. All shields need to be at least partially visible.

Alright, I really want to get this thing over with, I understand there have been many problems during this contest, so I will make the corrections requested on the following days.

For the love of Greg, get someone who does art on the contest team or knows something about it. It’s unfortunate all the shields are not included but “fixing” artwork can be really tedious especially if it changes the composition of the picture… Pointing out the hagah are not presented in maybe not the best possible way and suggesting to fix it is all fair but outright saying such issue has to be fixed or else is ludicrous.

It would be my suggestion in general that the artists each receive feedback by the contest runners and then are told what might make it better in their view, but mandating changes that one would view as such minor “infractions” does no one any favors.

OK I have made the changes requested but there is a problem with the topìc, for some reason when I try to upload the new version of the picture I get this error message, idk what is going in there but I´ve tried several times already and it just doesn´t work, any suggestions? I don´t wanna get DQ´d for some technical issue.

If it doesn’t fix itself, you could try uploading to Flickr or something like that and linking to it

What’s its resolution? It could be that the boards aren’t able to withstand it, I know I haven’t been able to upload anything at the 1200 dpi I scan stuff in.

Are you able to upload it in a new post, and are you able to edit the original post excluding the new image? I believe there’s a thing in Discourse (the hosting software for this site) where you can’t edit a topic after a certain amount of time.

Ok it’s done, I added the shields and changed the eye colour, it wasn’t that difficult but still I am not happy about it. I’m starting to have second thoughts about these contest, and after this it’s very likely that I will not be participating in future contests, if they even happen, this was supposed to be fun but in the end it was just stressful, I’m taking a long break after this…

That’s sad to hear this is a good piece I hope it goes far in the contest
