This work is inspired by Christian Faber’s Turaga Beach images and story. Like those pieces it’s meant to look back and forward at the same time.
Tahu sat on the beach, watching as the waves swept out towards the horizon, towards the great silhouette of the long-dormant Great Spirit. As he looked upon the waters, he thought he could see images of the past. The 5 other heroes who had shared his destiny. His long forgotten home of Mata Nui. The broken gates of his village. All this and more went through the last Toa’s head as he looked, the images weighing on him with an unfamiliar sense of finality.
How long had he been alone? How many centuries since the last villager passed away? Tahu pondered these questions endlessly, searching for answers. But all that came to him were more questions. He thought about his team, gone so long now their names had faded from his mind. All names had faded, he realized, all except his own. With this realization, he decided that maybe he too had lived long enough, and lay down and closed his eyes.
Suddenly in the distance, a loud boom was heard. Tahu leaped to his feet and began to run towards the sound, stopping for a moment to look one last time at Turaga Beach and the distant remains of Mata Nui. He would not return this time, he was sure of it. The past was the past, but his future burned bright.
