The (fair) Tournament of Elements

So we all know that the Tournament of Elements wasn’t really fair, and that Chen rigged it so that he would win, right? Well, I’ve decided to make my own version of the Tournament, with 32 competitors!

RULES:

There aren’t many rules, except to vote for whichever competitor you like more (the matchups are randomized). SINCE THIS TOURNAMENT IS ABOUT FINDING THE MOST WELL-LIKED ELEMENTAL MASTER, PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT BATTLE SKILLS/STRENGTH/ETC. WILL NOT COME INTO PLAY HERE. ALL THAT MATTERS IS WHICHEVER ONE YOU LIKE AS A CHARACTER MORE.

And one more thing…

ONLY ONE CAN REMAIN!

After 3 days of voting, the top 16 Elemental Masters are ready to move on to the Round of 16!

The case of Ash v. Gravis is weird because at the end of voting, both of them were deadlocked with 11 votes. It ultimately came down to a coin flip, and Gravis came out on top in the end.

In descending order, we have:

Wu, Master of Creation - 19 votes

Zane, Master of Ice - 18 votes

The First Spinjitzu Master - 17 votes

Lilly, former Master of Earth - 16 votes

Skylor, Master of Amber - 15 votes

Maya, former Master of Water - 15 votes

Cole, Master of Earth - 15 votes

Karlof, Master of Metal - 14 votes

The Omega, Oni of Destruction - 14 votes

The Overlord, essence of Darkness - 14 votes

Morro, Master of Wind - 13 votes

Kai, Master of Fire - 13 votes

Garmadon, Master of Destruction - 13 votes

Bolobo, Master of Nature - 12 votes

Gravis, Master of Gravity - 11 votes

Mr. Pale, Master of Light - 10 votes

Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to the following Elemental Masters:

Lloyd, Master of Energy - 11 votes

Ash, Master of Smoke - 11 votes

Acronix, Master of Time - 9 votes

Firstbourne, Dragon of Creation - 9 votes

Shade, Master of Shadow - 9 votes

Neuro, Master of Mind - 8 votes

Wojira, Creature of Water/Wind - 7 votes

Chamille, Master of Form - 7 votes

Nya, Master of Water - 6 votes

Krux, Master of Time - 6 votes

Mystake, Oni of Destruction - 6 votes

Tox, Master of Poison - 6 votes

Jay, Master of Lightning - 5 votes

Jacob, Master of Sound - 5 votes

Ray, former Master of Fire - 5 votes

Turner, Master of Speed - 1 vote

I found these matchups really interesting, as lots of unexpected things happened. Shade and Mr. Pale were neck-and-neck for most of the round, and so were Lloyd and Garmadon, but Garmadon ultimately prevailed in the end. Firstbourne didn’t lose to Morro by a large margin despite Morro being a universal fan-favorite character. Jay surprisingly received the least votes out of any ninja, and while facing off against Cole in a randomized bracket was a rather unfortunate coincidence for both my favorite ninja, I had expected Jay to get at least 8-10 votes but was sorely disappointed. Nya was a different story, as I knew she was going to get steamrolled by Zane by a large margin. Acronix put up an unexpectedly strong showing against Skylor, and I half expected Griffin Turner to get more votes, but he was dominated by Master Wu 19-0 until late in the second day of voting. So much for speed, he finishes the tournament in dead last.

THE QUARTERFINALS ARE HERE!

VOTE NOW: the (fair) Tournament of Elements

We have our top 8 elemental masters!

Starting off the leaderboard with a cumulative score, we have:

  1. Kai - 39 votes

  2. Cole - 39 votes

  3. Karlof - 37 votes

  4. Lilly - 36 votes

  5. Wu - 34 votes

  6. Morro - 31 votes

  7. First Spinjitzu Master - 31 votes

  8. Garmadon - 31 votes

The Round of 16 had lots of action in it as well. Just like Ash and Gravis in the Round of 32, Skylor and the First Spinjitzu Master were neck-and neck for the majority of the voting period. Initially, Skylor was winning as projected, but at some point the First Spinjitzu Master flipped it in his favor, and maintained the lead. Aside from Ash v. Gravis, this was the closest battle of the tournament, with Skylor losing by just one vote, 13 to the FSM’s 14 votes this round. This was a shocker for me, because the FSM doesn’t really have much of an established character, while Skylor is clearly a fan favorite and is one of the most well-liked elemental masters in the fandom. But this was not the biggest upset of the round. The biggest upset came in the form of Garmadon v. Zane. My projection was that Zane wouldn’t have much difficulty in beating Garmadon and advancing to the QF’s, but he was thrashed by Garmadon who finished with a lead of 9 votes, a much lower tally for Zane than I had anticipated. Kai vs Bolobo went as well as anyone would have expected it to, Kai winning an unsurprising 26-1 majority which places him at the top of the cumulative leaderboard along with Cole, a massive comeback from his low ranking among the top 16 at the conclusion of the Round of 32. The other matches were pretty uneventful, but the Overlord came very close to beating Wu.
