The Great Beings (Or at least one per tribe)

So a long while ago I felt like taking a shot at trying to design the Great Beings we actually (at least somewhat) know which coincidentally matched up to the number of Glatorian tribes so I wanted to do one for each tribe. (Plus having some physical representations of these rather important people in my collection felt like a good idea)

I also wanted to not go too overboard with them since I actualy like the idea of them being Glatorian with advanced minds instead of demigod like titans many usually depict them as (which of course also looks amazing). So I wanted to create Glatorian scale models wearing armor that looks less for combat and more like robes, or protective clothing. Id say it worked out better for some than for others.

So here we have all of them together

And now to go through my thought process for each:

First we got Angonce. Way I saw him was a bit closer to regular people and very much scholarly. I felt like Water would fit very well with that and tried to make his armor look a bit like flowy robes. Also gave him a tricorder-like scan tool inspired by the thing the Onu Matoran had in Mnog.

Next up is Heremus. With him going all poetic about naming Mata Nui I took him as being a bit more spiritual and more sage like, which I felt jungle would fit quite well. Also gave him a somewhat Turaga-esque armor and a staff that’s probably a disguised tool as well.

Then we got the cursed Great Being. Reckless enough to touch an object filled with the power of all life I decided on Fire for him and took him as one who would probably research things in the field and go on exploration trips from all that curiosity he seems to have. His armor is supposed to resemble a poncho a bit for that and I included some leather-strap like elements.

Last of the major ones we got Velika. With his desire to watch their creation up close I decided he might be one to be very closely involved in creating their creations, which is why I gave him a welding tool and mask. His mask is also a bit of a foreshadowing for his borrowed body since that’s what the Komau always reminded me of.

I gave him Earth tribe since it was the closest resemblance to his Matoran self and I liked him being part of that tribe since they were also scheming and causing trouble amongst the reunited Spherus Magna. I decided on a more skinny yet still protected armor, but for more maneuverability while building stuff and because it would work well for a schemer and deceiver like him. Also got some inspiration from Starscream there. Also the grey spots are supposed to resemble loose pebbles one would often find in soil. Thought that would look neat.

Then we got the Great Being that took care of forging the Ignika and likely other things that needed forging. For Metal working Iron tribe seemed to be optimal. Also gave him a shorter an bulkier build for good protection and also that dwarven smith vibe.

Next we got one of the two Great Beings that brought the Ignika to Voya Nui. One of them felt more cold and analytical so that of course earned him ice tribe. I gave him an optical implant in reference to the scopes many ice toa seem to have. Also the golden carrying case for the mask. I see this one as the one that designed the trials guarding the mask.

In continuation from the last it’s the other of the two. This ones the one that dug out all of the stairs and chambers beneath the Island. Likely someone who did the kind of heavy digging and terraforming work more often so for that I gave him sand tribe since it’s the only ground based tribe left. Also gave him a stronger and more protective looking build. Gonna need that for the kind of hard and dangerous work. Unlike the glatorian that became the Vorox I decided to not give him a tail as well. Why tinker on your own body when there’s a whole bunch of perfectly good fellow tribes people after all.

Lastly one that’s a bit more of a reach. So yeah canonically there are no Skrall among the great beings, im well aware. Buuuut I kinda wanted ALL the tribes to have one since I already hade all but this one. So I got to thinking. Ok theres none in the great beings that we know. But that technicaly didn’t mean there couldn’t be one in one of the many alternate universes. So I decided to make my Skrall Great Being the one Mazeka negotiated his little exchange program with. This one seemed a bit more like a politician and so I tried to give him the appearance of wearing some fancy robe. Took some inspirations from some stereotypical royal advisors. What hes holding is a stone tablet and a carving tool. That kind of people would need to note down lots of things Im sure.

While im sure these are nowhere near even remotely close to anything many people in the community would picture the great beings as, I do hope they can still be enjoyed.

And now with introductions out of the way heres some extra pictures I felt like taking:

From creation to catastrophe. (Yeah definitely didnt just take this one to brag or anything. Me? come on would I ever?)

Bringing the mask to a suitable place.

The most extended time-out session ive ever heared of.

“This one seems like a suitable specimen…”

The Cursed Great Being’s torso looks really cool, I’ve never seen those blazing wing pieces used that way!

Thanks, yeah ive been looking at various different fire pieces to figure out how to incorporate the glatorian elemental aesthetic into that one untill i stumbled upon this half complete chima figure that had those wings. hadnt seen the part before and was realy intrigued by it. realy wanted to use it and then shortly after the idea of using it like flowing cloth came to me due to it covering such a large surface
