This is the legend of some exceptional Glatorian who have changed the fate of an entire planet, the great beings.
Long ago, the planet of Spherus Magna was prosperous and serene. This world was ruled by the great beings, great scientific kings who lived inside a fortress with no entrance. It could be accessed only with their ascent.
Not wanting to be bothered with the day-to-day business of ruling a world, they experienced on some Glatorian and created six powerful entities, the element world to rule the planet.
But the discovery of a powerful energy source changed the destiny of the planet forever. This strange substance was discovered by 2 agori of the ice tribe. One of them paid the tribute for touching it.
This discovery led to a war between each tribe for its possession. This conflict will be remembered as “the core war”.
This situation worried the great beings, especially the eldest of the group, Takenga.
He sent Raanu and another Agori called Kiry to obtain a sample of this strange liquid. After studying it for months, verifying and verifying calculations and experimental protocol, he came to a terrible conclusion: If anyone would tap the full power of the spring, the stress inside the plant would grow until leading to its shattering.
Desperate, they search for a solution to stop the war. Two of them, Keiji and Heremus, invented a powerful shapeshifter robot named the Baterra who would seek out and defeat any armed warrior.
They created havoc on the battleground but weren’t able to stop the war. They even become incontrollable and haunt some area in the far north.
At the same time, another great beings called Angonce and Alfenaus launched another project.
This project was the creation of a giant robot with incredible power capable of escaping the planet before its destruction. Its purpose was to find and study other worlds, so that what happened on Spherus Magna would never happen again, and one day return to repair all the chaos that has been done.
The actual building was made by nanotech wonders called matoran, who would one day inhabit the robot and keep it functioning properly. Other creatures, some close to the matoran, other pretty far, with no actual useful purpose were also created and put inside the robot.
The creature will create a city island called metru nui, that would be used as the robot brain.
These creatures were kept alive with a device on the form a mask. Some of these masks would even provide powers to other creatures to help them in their tasks. This device was called after the great being who designed them, Kanohi.
Some specific masks, too dangerous to be used all the time, would allow them to stop catastrophes that could happen. One of them was created to reboot the robot if his “health” would decline. Angonce brought his help to Kanohi to do so. This mask was alive and would cursed anyone who wasn’t destined to wear it.
One of the great being, Kirottu paid the price for being too curious and not careful enough.
His curse was to give life to anything he touches. He was so dangerous that his colleagues imprisoned him in their tower to contain the chaos he could unleash otherwise.
Many creatures were built by the great beings. But the best creations in their eyes were two titans who would have the purpose to either repair the broken workers or transcend the best ones. They were put into a fight to determine who would inherit each task, with the reward of powerful masks. One of them allows the wearer to have te power to create evrything he wanted if the necessary materials were brought to him, for which Heremus put a lot of effort to realize. The other, created by Kirottu before his curse, would allow the wearer to to project a mental illusion of an alternate timeline or a possible future into someone’s minds.
Another great being, Bodu, alongside Alfenaus, was working on a system that would help the robot to launch from a planet, and that would be used as a resurrection centre for all of their colleague creations. This was an orbital station called the red star.
The station would be run by a less developed version of the matoran called the Kestora.
Meanwhile, the war continued, and the fate of the planet was sealed.
Soon, the robot was launched, and the great beings hoped he would fulfil his mission while the planet was starting to crack from everywhere. This chaos led to the shattering of the planet into 3 celestial bodies: an aquatic planet that would be called aqua magna, a luxuriant one that would be called Bota Magna, and the greatest of the three, a desertic planet, that would be called Bara Magna.
Each inhabitant of the planet tried to survive where they were trapped during the event. Great beings try as well and thought about their mistake and how the future could be. Only one of them was not meditating about such things.
Keiji, curious about the robot and its regulating nanomachine, transferred its consciousness into a matoran body to keep an eye on the evolution of these creatures. To justify his absence, he pretexted an exile to his colleagues.
Before this “exile”, he created with his colleague an enhanced version of the Baterra, the Marendar, that would chase an evolved version of the matoran, the toa, if they became a threat for the planet inhabitants after the return of the robot.
Thousands of years fled, Mata Nui finally returned and fulfilled its mission. But all problems weren’t solved, and chaos was about to strike again. Once on the surface of the new reformed planet, toa, matoran, agori, glatorian and many other creatures, started to create a new civilisation.
Great beings noted that, and some accepted this new situation. It was the case of Kanohi, Angonce and Alfenaus
But the consensus wasn’t shared by all great beings. Some saw this situation as a huge problem, such as Takenga, Heremus and Bodu.
But the most convinced one was Keiji. After his journey in the Mata Nui robot as a matoran, he came to the conclusion that the great being lead was weak, and that was the reason of the core war. As such, he was ready to take the power and create his new world. He sees the matoran universe inhabitants as a threat for his ambitions and want to annihilate all of them, what he started pretty quickly after the restoration of the planet.
First, he killed Karzahni…
Then Treen Krom…
An wanted to kill other powerful entities. To do so, he was even ready to kill one of its colleagues, Kirottu, who met some of the most powerful entities of the matoran universe after being freed from his prison.
Even if he failed to eliminate them, he counted on Marendar some trusted allies, and also on some inventions of its own that would allow him to obtain the reserched power to rule.
But what will happen next is another story to be written…
Here we are. Here are my interpretation of the great beings.
Angonce
One of the wisest great beings, and a skilled creator. Before becoming a great being, he was a member of the Skrall. He’s the creator of the Mata Nui robot and the first toas. Angonce feel guilty about the situation of Spherus Magna after the core war and was ready to avoid such cataclysm again. As such, he wanted peace and wanted a society were Glatorian, Agori, Toa, Matoran and other spieces would cohabit.

Heremus
Former fire tribe glatorian, Heremus was the most talented robotician among his peers. He created the Baterra, Marendar, and various other species and beings, including Karzahni and Arthaka.
After the return of Mata nui and the restoration of Spherus Magna, he saw how his creation has evolved, and was particularly disapointed, especially concerning Karzahni. He toughts that such corrupted beings could not leave on the planet without causing problems, so he was ready to anihilate them at all cost.

Bodu
A former jungle tribe glatorian and the creator of the red star. He is fascinated by astronomy and by nature. His scythe allow him to travel in the dense jungle of Bota Magna to study the fauna and plants. After seeing the damagae caused by the battle of Bara Magna, he was convinced that all the matoran universe species were a potential source of danger, and was decided to eliminate them.

Kanohi
Former water tribe glatorian, he is the creator of the Kanohi mask technology. His greatest creation was a mask that containing all the power of the other masks he created. He created the Ignika alongside Angonce.
Philantropic by nature, Kanohi wanted to see his technology used for the common good. He believed that a society between Glatorian and Toa was possible.

Takenga
The eldest of the great beings, Takenga was a former ice tribe glatorian. As a great being, he was a brillant chemist gifted with goodness. After being thraumatized by the discovery of the core war outcome and the death of his life partner during the cataclysm, he started to curse the energized protodermis and everything related to it. According to him, this substance could only bring chaos, so, he was ready to obliterate everything related to it to never hear from it again, including Toa and Matoran.

Alfenaus
A female Glatorian from the iron tribe. She was a skilled ingineer and biologist. She lost her arm after an accident with an agori who would become infamous for being a slave trader. She replaced it with an high tech prothesis. She built the first matoran in existence, Takua.
She was convinced of the possibility of a peaceful society between agori and matoran.

Kirottu, the cursed great being
Known as the cursed great being, Kirottu was an earth tribe Glatorian who has been cursed by the Kanohi Ignika. He was emprisoned on Bota Magna by his peer to contain his chaotic power. He never separates from his alive staff. After the try of Keiji to eliminate him alongside the other matoran universe species, he wanted revenge.
He appreciates matoran universe inhabitant and don’t see any problem in their presence on the planet.

Ultimate Keiji, the ultimate overlord of Spherus Magna
Keiji created this armor as a saftey measure in the case all of his creation would become uncontrollable like the Baterra. But after his trip in the Mata Nui robot, he decided to use it to assert his authority on the planet. This armor, which is powered by a nui stone is like a toa nuva adaptative armor, giving him all the tools he needs to adapt to his environement. It gives him four additional arms. Two of them carry energy blade, where the two other carry powerful blaster canceling elemental powers.

- Kirottu staff was inspired by Osmund Sadler staff from Resident Evil 4.
- Keiji means revelation in japanese. I choosed this name as a reference to the apocalypse, “apocalypsis” meaning revelation in ancient greek. Considering his actions can lead to a new destruction of the world, the link with apocalypse was obvious
- The exo-armor of Keiji was inspired by Metal Madness from Sonic Heroes.
