The Linux Topic

I paly TF2 the most frequently, and if I gut the settings it works fine. I know Minecraft and Hollow Knight run fine as they are as well, and I didn’t have any noticeable issues with Terraria but I also didn’t push it too much on that one.

Your GPU might be better than I was imagining. Linux Mint is probably a safe bet for you. It’s lighter than Windows and has significantly less background processes which would free up your CPU and RAM usage the most. You still won’t be able to play EA’s Battlefront 2, but you definitely get an improvement in overall performance. There are also a couple things you could potentially do from your bios menu to improve your RAM and GPU performance. RAM by default is set to run at a fraction of it’s rated speed unless you turn set otherwise. This is called DOCP/XMP depending on whether you’re running an AMD or Intel CPU. There’s a similar setting in place for your GPU, but it can only be turned on if your other parts are ok with it.

Edit: DOCP/XMP can be set from the bios menu.

If your particularly worried about your computer being able to run it, there are distros specifically made for older or lower power machines (linux lite and AntiX come to mind), but if your computer can already run windows 10, theres no worries

@kawaii_kitten Here’s a virtualbox guide

If you have questions, feel free to tag me.

Note: When setting your memory amount, every thousand is 1 GB. The mininum these days is 4000 or 4 GB, but it’s up to you.

It’s been a few years but I ran TF2 natively without a vm on mac just fine. No extra work needed.

Valve stopped support after the 64-bit update, I believe.

Dang

@kawaii_kitten Wine would be another option, but getting it to run on mac is fairly complicated. Maybe consider switching to a Linux OS? TF2 runs natively on Linux.

how would i go about doing that? could i run them both?

First thing is how much storage do you have? Is this a shared computer?
