is linux the penguin thing
On the real though, are there any advantages to it over Windows for non-tech geeks? Always been confused on that.
One advantage is a serious lack of bloatware (extra stuff sent out by Microsoft designed to slow the computer down and decrease overall lifespan) which is a pressing issue since Microsoft wants everyone to switch to using Windows 11 and will be stopping service for Windows 10 in October afaik.
Another is that, unlike Windows 11, Linux isn’t made by A.I.
Another advantage is security, since its made by individuals and usually open source, you dont need to worry about data collection from your os, and a lot more consumer-focused malware is targeted at windows users (though some caution is better than anything else)
Another advantage is that a majority of its forms are free, and the variety of both backend funtional and frontend appearances allows for really personalized setups (some people like to build everything their way from the ground up while others like things to just work complete from the start up screen)
I like spending less money and not sending personal data to mega corpos… maybe once I have more time I’ll look into learning some stuff. Thank you!
Idk, you get to gloat to people about how you use Linux?
If you ever want to mess around with it, I’d recommend installing Linux Mint on a separate drive or inside of a virtual machine. It’s very beginner friendly and focuses on stability and ease of use compared to other Linux distros that are more do it yourself.
I’m fairly comfortable with Linux. I can help out if you ever want to shoot me a PM.
Ive been daily driving Mint for close to a year now, and I have to agree, its one of the smoothest, least tempramental distros out there. Another one Id reccomend is MX linux, its very versatile and retains some windows-like ui in places
I have Mint and it’s peak
Also if you don’t like google, install Freetube to watch youtube videos without sending them your data
Interesting.
Now, I’ve heard something about Linux Void. Anything concerning that distro?
Void isn’t dependant on another upstream distro like many others. From what I hear, it’s fast, and gets close to the bleeding edge while maintaining stability. It’s still a niche distro though, so package availability is smaller. Whether that’s a con or not depends on your personal use case.
I am going to pretend that I understood those words
A really big problem I have with my computer is that I am poor and cannot afford a nice graphics card/processor. Is there any Linux distro or function that can maximize the amount of capability my computer possesses?
Yesn’t. Depends on your exact hardware components and what you want to use the pc for. If you can tell me that, I can probably come up with some recommendations.
I see. And use case?
I don’t know the best way to answer that so just put down worst case
By use case, I mean what do you use your computer for? Besides screaming at weebs and furries online.
Mostly graphic design, hating adobe products, I’d like to do more gaming related stuff with it but the most intensive thing I’ve gotten to run is EA’s Battlefront 2 and that was at like 5 frames/sec
What games do you play that you can you run decently?
