After a long personal debate, I’ve finally decided to just go ahead and do an official MOC topic for myself. For a while now I have been of the opinion that dedicated topics for posting your own creations is the way to go, but since I had already made several MOC posts by the time I had realized that, I kept hesitating. Now though, I’m ready to commit to it
Personally, I think that MOC topics make it easier for the creator and the viewer, as well as allowing for the easy inclusion of minor updates. For example, I’ve been spending more time making weapons recently, but it would never make sense to create a whole topic just to show off some glorified sticks. The only time I might make a separate topic for a MOC now is the case of something like my Grievous MOC, where I feel that it having its own dedicated space feels right.
Overtime, I might try and link, or even add my old MOC posts into this topic so everything is in one place, but we’ll see if I get around to it. I’m not really sure about how to format this place yet.
Anyways, making this topic is cool and all, but even better is the MOCs themselves. So, to start things off here, I did a revamp of one of Ouditeirous. I really tried to make him look a lot smoother this time around. It definitely cost a bit of arm mobility to pull it off, but I think it’s a worthy trade by far.
You did a great job with making the body more sleek and streamline. The shapeways mask looks great too. Vita’s mask was a white one before the paint job.
I was happy with the old MOC for so long. It was simple, and excusable. Glad I redid him though. At first things weren’t going that well. You can’t tell from the pictures, but his torso is everything that’s annoying to deal with. On both his X and Z axis, I had to convert from an even numbered grid, to an odd numbered one. I don’t even know if that makes sense. That’s what I had to do though for both the length and depth of his torso. It was difficult, but I think that it was what it needed to give him that extra little bit of bulk.
I really love how the chest armor turned out. All the cloth work surprised me as well. I feel that with cloth, things aren’t working until they are, and then they really work. Definitely one of the most satisfying things to include. Seeing a MOC before and after a cloth addition can be like night and day.
Here’s his old version on its last day of existence.
As more of a side note, it’s kind of exhausting how the loop of MOCing is just that, a loop. A never ending cycle of revamping outdated designs. By the time you’ve gotten through a backlog, you look at your shelf again, and you notice flaws and disappointments on MOCs you were happy with a year ago. It really makes some of them stand out though. I’ve had MOCs like Alltearer who last for years without any update, but eventually time catches up. Seems like time has caught up to all of my old guys.
