Right after I finished my entry into the Doctor Strange contest mentioned in my previous post, I learned of a poster contest going on for The Northman, a film I was incredibly excited for. They haven’t announced the winners, but I know I haven’t been shortlisted, so I am probably fine to share this. I was trying to capture a retro barbarian feel with it, since the movie trailer seemed a lot like Conan.
I wasnt allowed to depict the face of any of the actors, so in this case it wasn’t my usual cop-out of not drawing eyes. I think I could have done a little better, because I started rushing on some of the soldiers. Also, I learned after I submitted this that the rules said something about “no dangerous situations may be depicted”… which seemed like an odd rule for a poster advertising an R-rated Viking revenge movie, but oh well. That may have killed my chances. Anyway, here is another piece I submitted that I didn’t like as much:
If you love swords and sandals stuff or dark fantasy in general, The Northman is an incredible watch, I’d highly recommend. A bit gory though, so be warned if you’re on the younger side.
One more interesting spoilery thing, After seeing the movie, I learned that all of the scenes from the trailer that I depicted in my posters are actually the main character massacring innocent people that had nothing to do with his father’s murder… which feels a bit weird to glorify, but oh well. That movie was dark!
