The Raven King

Long ago, in the realm known as the Wyldness, an ambitious raven whose name is lost to history founded a group of covert operatives known as the Order of Deep Shadow.

By abusing the power of corrupted Chi, he was able to grow to a massive size, and, soon, even the many armies of Chima quaked in their boots.

For Chima!

His reign would be cut short, however, by five (ignore the fact that I only have three; this isn’t like King Arthur and the Holy Hand Grenade) of his even-more-ambitious disciples, who would later come to be known as the Forbidden Five. One of their number, Nokt, convinced Raven King to down a brew, which, unbeknownst to the king, was poisoned. When the king next awoke, it would be in the Cursed Realm.

Of Ninjago’s growing number of revealed-on-social-media characters, the Raven King has intrigued me more than most. Since much about him has yet to be revealed, I took quite a few liberties.

To be honest, I originally made this MOC as a G2 creation many months ago. Revisiting it recently, I realized how much better it would work for the Ninjago character, especially since he had the same name. After making the torso more complex, I fixed some other aspects (originally, he had twin Gali Uniter blades, which did not fit his color scheme) and reworked his wings (initially, they were built into his arms, but, once I pivoted him to be based on the Ninjago character, I changed them to be separate appendages, which is much closer to the typical wing structure of Chima ravens). His face was originally a magenta Ben 10 claw, with the Von Nebula spike-crown attached by way of rubber band, but I reworked that as well.

I am a little cross with my Bionicle collection, which somehow managed to spew out just one of part 92907 in black; that’s why the one on his face is light gray. If I find another somewhere, I’ll probably swap it in, but, for now, I decided that the light gray one looked better on his face than on his back.

If there’s anything in my expanded backstory for the Raven King that contradicts DR:S4P2, please don’t mention it, as I haven’t seen the leaked season yet. Similarly, if anything contradicts Ninjago lore revealed online before or after the leaking, I was not able to check the wiki for the same reason as above, and thus I had to write this based on my best memories of him.

Couldn’t quite make out his features in the first few pictures. I think there may be a few too many add-ons on the CCBS shells. Definitely a cool concept though, and his size is impressive.

I originally misread this and imagined them just standing there and quacking in fear :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s cool to see you make a MOC! The color scheme is pretty fresh and mostly consistent. I like the head, it’s very clever and instantly recognizable as a raven. I just think it’s a little empty from the side, if you’re not opposed to System pieces I’d suggest adding one of these to the exposed stud behind the beak:

Maybe with some other plates attached to it (or an entirely different assembly), but that one piece alone could already help fill out the shape.

I feel this… I have quite a lot more, but it’s never enough. Such a useful connector, it’s always a struggle scrounging them together.

Overall this is a fun build, I really hope you’re going to upload more MOCs in the future!

This is a really cool MOC.

I definitely got Chima vibes from this as soon as I saw it. Nicely done.

It’s probably less that and more that I couldn’t get a good camera angle, given that his wings kept hitting the edge of my lightbox, and, when they didn’t, he toppled over due to being overwhelmingly top-heavy. Thank you for the feedback, though!

That’s a good idea! I do generally try to keep my System and Bionicle/HF parts separate, but maybe I should reconsider in this case (especially since he’s based on a character from a System theme). His head being so empty is mostly due to me redesigning it entirely when I was almost done with the rest of the build, resulting in there not being many parts available to me that would work for this.

I took photos of a few other MOCs yesterday, so I definitely intend to!

@Au-Plau-Se and @Racie02–Thank you for the feedback!
