A few weeks ago, I was thinking about how the movie Shazam personified the Seven Deadly Sins and I felt inspired to try the same.
I. PRIDE
Pride gets his name from, among other things, the great care he puts into his appearance and his attitude regarding his accomplishments. He keeps his armor shiny and clean to look better (more professional?) than the other six and boasts an impressive wingspan despite all seven of them being capable of teleportation. He succeeds by tempting others to be arrogant and blasphemous.
II. WRATH
This one is always angry, always looking for a fight (or really any excuse to attack someone). Most of the sins don’t use any tools at all (and the few that do only use one), but this one wields two swords, trading practicality for brute force. He succeeds by tempting others to give into their rage.
III. GLUTTONY
This sin abandoned the lower half of his body in favor of doubling the upper half so he can feed himself as much as he can. Without a proper digestive system, neither head is ever full nor truly enjoys what it eats. He succeeds by tempting others to gorge themselves, not giving their body the respect it deserves.
IV. LUST
This sin represents feelings very rarely experienced by the inhabitants of the Matoran Universe, so Toa and Makuta alike are frightened by her charms. She succeeds by tempting others to give in to their innate desires, to go out of their way through great lengths just for the thrill of intimacy because “it is what they deserve.”
V. SLOTH
This sin has neglected his body to the point that his legs have completely atrophied and must rely on a ragtag cart for transportation. That said, since he, like Pride and all of the others, is capable of teleportation, he isn’t bothered by it in the least. He succeeds by tempting others into believing that they don’t have to give anything their all and that the easy way out is an acceptable outcome.
VI. AVARICE
Greed is good, and this sin knows it. He hoards anything of value that he can get his four arms on, believing the material wealth that he can accumulate is tantamount to true power. He succeeds by tempting others into thinking that what they have is never enough.
VII. ENVY
The smallest and weakest of the seven, this sin sees the powers and success of his counterparts and wants nothing more than to have them all for himself; he can usually be found leeching to one of the others in attempts to claim them. He succeeds by tempting otherss into thinking that they are entitled to things that they didn’t earn and to deprive their neighbors of what they have.
Trivia
- Other than some of their masks and Wrath’s cape, all seven are designed to be purist; although I wish luck to anyone who attempts to build them all (particularly Avarice).
- Fitting for Sloth, his cart is missing a large number of essential things, such as any form of steering. The front wheels cannot turn and they’re too big for the back wheels to do anything like on a proper wheelchair; there is also no panel for Sloth to steer remotely.
