If you meant long awaited… I think there’s maybe two people who were waiting for this? :imp: (John Fox and Bob Disney respectively)

Fascinating news fellows.

Sorry, but any respect I had left for the Simpsons was lost several years ago…when they made that God-Awful Lady Gaga episode or when they got rid of Apu…or when they started sucking up to Disney.

I heard they turned Homer and Marge into Millennials…and I was like WTF??? The show should’ve ended a long time ago around 2001 or 2005 if you want to be kind.

Sir, The Simpsons recent years has become good again with each episode, the something happen to SpongeBob and maybe Family Guy, we get it you lost all hope in the longest running animation sitcom series, but this is off-topic because this is from the second movie.

I don’t think a lot of people share your opinion on the quality of the show, Spiderus.

Case in point, IMO the dip in quality has become quite apparent after the Disney purchase, and it does raise concerns regarding the second movie’s potential revenue, especially if most audiences are in agreement to its quality being rather lacking. However there is still probably a guaranteed audience for the film regardless of the overall popularity of the show due to its presence in the media landscape.

Agreed. I think (as with most long-running cartoons) that the Simpsons is reaching the point at which its quality is around that of the Smurfs movies. Most of the jokes the writers can make are either overused or aren’t in accord with executives (see the one episode scrubbed from Disney+ to prevent China making trouble for Disney), and the show itself is just a meme for some of us (I’ve never watched it, but I see loads of memes taken from the Simpsons).

And then there’s the common trend of executives going, “Oh look, we got a cartoon and a movie studio. Why don’t we make a movie with the cartoon? Surely the show made for 30-minute episodes won’t run out of momentum at the 45-minute mark when the writers run out of new gags..” I don’t think these movie specials are in a good place right now. They just don’t have either popularity or true quality of writing, just cheap gags and marketing based solely on nostalgia (for fans of the show).

Considering that the first Simpsons the Movie was not the finale no matter how fitting it was (and to think I was basically a kid both when it first came out and when I first watched it, I had no idea of how long Simpsons had gone on because it was one of those “ha ha funny cartoon that occasionally comes on TV” when I was that young”), one can only hope that Simpsons the Movie 2 hints at a true closure to the series.

I feel like for quite a few years the Simpsons has been a skeleton of its past self so I doubt a new movie would be any different.
