I started building this for fun and it turned into something that’s actually viable for the canon contests.
I’m pretty much just posting this right now to gauge interest and see if it’d get DQ’d for [insert reason here] if I choose to enter it (as far as I know this doesn’t break any rules).
If people like this enough and if it doesn’t require any major changes I’ll take the rest of the required photos with edits where needed, plus probably more of the Hagah, otherwise I’ll just leave the MOC up as is.
I love the unique take but if you are wondering about rules being broken I’d say the armor being multiple colours is one (off the top of my head). It shouldn’t be too difficult replacing the dark gold shoulder pads with say pearl gold nuva pads to match. Also some general input would be maybe add a third colour like a wee bit more dark grey? Hope that’s helpful and I look forward to seeing any further renditions!
Edit: I’m so sure the shoulder pads weren’t gold when I first viewed the topic
This is really creative looking, it’s fun to see how far the hagah designs can be pushed while staying within the rules. As for feedback though, I feel like the mask looks way too small. G2 masks in general are super tiny compared to what was normal in G1, and that can work fine in some cases, but here next to that really thick neck the contrast feels super obvious and distracting. If it won and the art were to upscale the mask though, that would be cool. Gali’s 2015 mask has always been a nice design and I’d love to see it incorporated into G1’s canon in some way.
Very unique, but does it fit in with a team build alongside Norik and Iruni? No. Criticize my ideals if you wish, but I do not believe in the unique/complex=good build mindset. To me it seems a bit childish- to go for cool and wow factor rather than having a fitting character. “But Bionicle is a children’s toy line” some people would say. Fah. With a world and story so large that it ended itself, it is definitely more than that.
Ranting aside, this is a really cool looking build on its own. I admire the creativity that went into it. And it is consistent with itself throughout without being too greeble or open. Very nice.
Man, I always love takes like these in the contests! It sucks that they don’t end up making it very far since for a lot of people consistent aesthetics and design traits are held pretty high, but I wish people would do these kinds of dynamic character designs (or redesigns) more often, even outside of contests.
This will probably be my favorite entry of this contest, regardless of the winner. An excellent design and unique shapes, it looks great!
