Toa Chiara - Lady of the Lightning

Hi everyone!

This is my revised take on the loner Toa of Lightning, Chiara, and also my entry into the Duckbricks fanon contest. I wanted to get a jump on this entry, obviously! Of the three Yesterday Quest Toa, Chiara proved to be the least trouble. This is not to say that this design didn’t involve a lot of tinkering, because it definitely has, but I was lucky enough that a lot of my original version of her remained good enough for final presentation.

I really tried to do as much color blocking as possible, keeping it cohesive without being too bulky. Feminine figures can be a bit challenging, as I wanted to create a design that was recognizably female without being overly provocative. I think that I was successful in that endeavor. Her legs and torso are the parts I am especially proud of. A Toa of Lightning would likely be nimble and a bit lithe, but by no means appear frail. I took shaping inspiration for her form from Olympic track athletes, being tall and lean, but still svelte.

So, what sets this version apart from many others? This Chiara has torso articulation, a small play function on her spear, and is very stable, able to capture many dynamic poses quite easily. I have always loved the marbled Hahli Inika pieces, and so went all-in on using them to create her colors. A bit of dark bluish grey pokes out in a few places, and this was intentional, as I didn’t want her head to be the only part in that shade. I chose dark green eyes for her as an homage to Toa Nikila, as well as her marbling color scheme. Even if many thousands of years separated the two, I thought some continuity between these two former Vo-Matoran would work nicely.

I will admit that there are a few white 2 axles, 3 axles with stud connector and axle/pin connectors, but other than that, not too many other overly expensive parts. As with most of my MOCs, this Chiara is definitely not fragile, and as mentioned before, is quite poseable, so play and display with confidence!

I used Khigk’s non-aquatic Kanohi Volitak Kanohi Volitak, Great Mask of Stealth by KhingK - Thingiverse and painted it myself. There are other versions of the Volitak that might be more appealing, but I was so pleased with the paint job I couldn’t abandon it in favor of another.

Thanks for your consideration, and hope you like her! As always, criticism and thoughts are welcome!

I like the inclusion of the tubes, like they could be conducting her power. nice detail

@Wekua Thank you! That was the exact intent I had when designing her arms! Originally I had used blue tubes, but these translucent purple ones match her spear even better. Glad you like her and thanks for commenting!

I like the additions to the Bohrok feet. They look smaller than other feet, but not so small as to be disproportionate.

@DuneToa Thanks! Her feet went through several tweaks, but the Bohrok feet just felt right to me. I had originally used white Metru feet, but I wanted something that appeared with more arch, and if I’m honest, something that I could modify to look more like heels. Thanks for the compliment, and glad you like her!

The lighting coming out of the Metru armour on the spear tip is a pretty cool parts usage.

@TheJerminator Thank you! I love the Metru thigh armor piece. It’s so versatile; I just wish it came in more colors!

@Luggage Thanks a lot! Her coloring was so fun to work with, and obviously, I just can’t sing enough praises on her marbled elements. Thanks for commenting!

Tubes seem a little unnecessary, but overall really great build! Good luck.

@Kanohi_Cantri Thanks a lot! I can kind of see your point, but I like the idea of them pumping raw electricity through her. I will admit, I also use them to help with some shaping on her upper torso.

Spear looks a bit too simple when you’ll look how complex is the rest of Toa, but I like what you’ve did with colors

@Bio_G3_Bringer Thanks! I have to agree, and will also say you’re not the first to think this. I did add some extra spacers for a bit of texturing, but when I had a more intricately designed spear, it became to weighty, and harder to pose. If white tubing were a bit cheaper, I would have added some! My Zaria has a more visually interesting staff, so I know there’s a way to strike a balance between light and detailed…
