Toa Chiara (Yesterday Quest)

Toa Chiara

Hello there, I present you my interpretation of our best known Toa of Lightning

Designing female Toa is always a challenge, as it is difficult to convey the femininity of the figure based only on BIONICLE bricks on such a small scale. It doesn’t help that people voting in DuckBricks’ fanon contests seem to favor smaller entries (I prefer Toa Inika height). So, when I started building my Chirara, I decided that I would start by thinking about what kind of torso I wanted to build.

Making interpretations of canon Toa, I always assume that a canonical Toa should use the Toa Metru torso as a base, but the poor number of votes collected by my Toa Orde during previous fanon contest pushed me to decision to go for an easier solution this time and construct a custom torso. I didn’t wanted to create another slim and lithe character. This appearance suits a Toa of Water. I wanted Chiara, as Toa of Lightning, to stand out with something that would only suit her specific element.

I took Mr. Freeze as my inspiration, while also trying to add small decorations that would make the armor resemble something like an electricity generator.

To make the torso look more like a suit, I wrapped a collar of pipes around my Chiara’s head and placed similar pipes around her hips, inspired by the purple belt worn by Sasuke (user of the Chidori technique) in the Naruto: Shippuuden anime.

When constructing custom limbs, I tried to make them slim, unlike the massive torso, but at the same time, I wanted them to have sticking out details that look like elements of a miniature power plant.

In terms of the mask, of course I decided on the canonical Kanohi Volitak. When printing it, I chose white filament so that the white accents would balance the blue color prevailing in the torso.

My Chiara’s spear was inspired by the weapons shown in the movie Transformers: Age of Extinction, specifically the sword that transforms into a blaster. I decided that since Toa cannot kill, instead of choosing a classic, realistic spear intended for stabbing, I would build something more unusual. At first glance, the tip of the spear may seem too massive, but considering the overall length of the weapon’s shaft, it does not bother it at all.

Throughout the entire construction process, I had a goal to choose bricks that would allow other people to recreate my MOC without spending a fortune on Bricklink. The parts used by my Chiara are cheap, common, and most of them are still in production, so it won’t significantly affect the prices of individual bricks. I didn’t used any rare color variants of bricks or custom elements other than the mask.
I hope this design will be well received by fans

Very nice! The spear is terrific, and I like the complexity of her torso design.

Thanks

I like thinking about this spear like about this weapon, but mounted on the long shaft:

It would be perfect as some kind of lightning thrower

@Lucasso_de_Luxor Agreed! It has a very angular shape, but still totally works as a spear tip. It’s cool to see how differently this weapon for her has been interpreted.

Hi, I’ve found your Moc on youtube and I wanted to ask you, could you plz make some instrutions for this build? I really want to copy the torso design for my selfmoc
Thanks

I’ve made whole timelapse video for this MOC. It will premiere on my channel today, in less than 2 hours.
I’ll update the main post by adding a direct link to it after video will become available so just wait a while

Great, thanks

Okay, it’s ready to be watched

Wow, I would never guess that it can be made this way :o
Many advanced techniques, but your MOC is still pretty simple, I thought it would require much more bricks. It seems I have half of what I’d need to make similar build

Excellent work! I love the first picture. It looks like it is straight out of a Lego magazine.

Arms and shins are a little spindly and dark, especially clashing with the body, but overall good look to it. Good luck.

I used black accents to break up the color scheme associated with the ice element. I assume that Toa should have colored armor, but the body under the armor can be black, it doesn’t really break the lore in any way (all had similar insides).

I like that you’re using parts I actually have in my box. It’s always problematic in renders’ case

Well, when I saw how many problems my friend had with getting all bricks needed to build Bukkey’s Orde (4 Bricklink orders and the brick used on the back was almost impossible to get in my country), I decided that I must do my best to create an entry which won’t be so problematic for other fans

I really like this ideal. One of my biggest complaints with Bukkey’s- yeah, it looks cool, but it’s a bit unnecessarily detailed/over complicated that makes it a good bit harder to replicate (other than looking a little out of place with other Bionicle sets). Curiosity: how many pieces is in your MOC?

If I didn’t made any mistakes, it will be:
26 bricks for each single leg,
28 bricks for each single arm,
98 bricks for torso with head,
29 bricks for spear,
and one custom mask.
So 235 original bricks plus Kanohi Volitak.

But bricks like red axles 2l, black flat liftarms 2l and 3l, metru head, black Exo-Force arms etc. are pretty common. It shouldn’t be hard to get whole needed stuff

Netrus, you’re from Poland, right? Me too. Do you know why best bionicle bricks’ sellers suddenly disappeared from Brick Link?

FingerBrick and Good Vagon Bricks are on vacation until next month. Not sure which sellers you’re talking about but search for them on Google using their nicks, you should see a note on the left telling why their shops are closed. I hope I helped
