Toa Gaaki, The Guardian (Toa Hagah Canon Contest)

Continuing my Hagah builds, here is Toa Gaaki!

Breakdown
Alternates

I thought it would be fitting to have her mask in the shape of an Akaku, given how she receives visions. I also decided to keep both of her Rhotuka silver, since her Rahaga set implies that a charged-up water Rhotuka remains silver, and I didn’t want to use any printed / painted parts.

EDIT: I updated the upper arms to be a bit shorter.

Next in line: Toa Kualus!

I like the shoulders!

Imma be honest here.

It’s not that this doesn’t look feminine enough - it straight-up looks masculine. Almost all of the armoring is way too bulky for me. I get you may have been trying to go for wider hips with the inika shoulders, but it doesn’t really work for me. Additionally, the elbow being at her hip and the hand reaching down past her knee looks really off. I feel like at the very least there’s a much simpler, cleaner way to build the upper arm. I can never remember - does the Avohkii have an axle or stud connection?

That said, I do really like the way the Akaku stands out in color from the rest of the MOC (although tbh I also find the Akaku to be a somewhat masculine appearing mask), and I definitely think you should continue the trend of stylized spears.

Thanks for the critiques! I didn’t really have masculine or feminine traits in mind when building her, I was just looking for armor that fit well together.

I do agree I’m not entirely satisfied with how long her upper arm turned out, but I wanted her to have articulation and use the Avohkii piece (which is an axle connection), and this was the best I could get it to work for now. I’ll definitely keep experimenting with that area, though.

EDIT: I might use the Metru-Nui matoran foot in place of the Toa Mata foot, that might shorten it and make the arm less bulky.

Points for using silver instead of gold to match her silver Rhotuka as a Rahaga as well as using an official mask rather than a new 3D printed design. However, there is too much armor. Iruini and Norik only have metallic feet, shoulder armor, chestplate, and Metru thigh armor. They don’t have any metallic pieces on their lower limbs. They also have black hands instead of silver (I would also replace the fingered Hero Factory ones). These are just tiny details, but they do matter in a canon contest.

Hey, Makuta also wanted to steal the Avohkii when his hands were made out of them all along!
