Toa Hagah, Pouks

Took some critiques from my Kualus and added some more black for uniformity to my Pouks that I will be entering when time comes

This is brown, the black is accent like in Norik and Iruini.

Neat idea with the split metallic colours.

Cool moc but why did you have the split color schemes for the armor?

Because why not?

  1. I wanted it to have something unique about it, I feel these contests are going to be HARD at having your moc look unique when standing in a crowd of others.
  2. These are supposed to be like gaudy guards, I feel like the mixed metals kind of acts like part of the status symbol that these Toa are supposed to have.

To not have a direct split in the armor’s color schemes, maybe have gold in the lower part of the shoulders with the silver on top and gold feet with silver in upper legs or you could switch it the other way around.

I thought about that, but I enjoy it this way. Perhaps if you have the parts you can make a combo like that. Would play nicely into the team if you could throw that on Bomonga, Kualus, or Gaaki. We could cooperate in that sense.

The split coloring is a nice idea, and one I personally am a fan of. However, with the dark grey and black being divided up differently, and the brown between everything, it starts to have too many colors; it loses all sense of cohesion, ceasing to look like an even split and more a multi-color mess.

I would either A) use only dark grey or only black (or mayhaps another color, like dark tan, or even red to match the Roporak), or B) only use dark grey on the left and black on the right (or vice versa) to match the mettalic divide.

Problem with that is that those connectors don’t exist in black or in metru brown to match the limbs like on Norik or Iruini. Another issue is that without black its open to the same type of critique I got with my Kualus-it loses the black accent like the other two. I can see where you’re coming from, but also with the layering that it has I see it to be less of an issue. All the metallics are on the outermost surface and not part of the character’s actual body. I don’t mind posting some stuff with it in the all grey to show tho, let me know how you feel about it.

I just realized it does indeed come in the correct brown but accumulating 4 of those connectors would probably be very difficult for me

Here’s a little remix, not exactly what you want but its what I can do real quick.

I’ll have to disagree with that in this case. The fact that it has dark grey already sets it apart from Norik and Iruini. Trying to match with Norik and Iruini where you can, but then using dark grey where you can’t, creates too much of an imbalance when you’re also going for two mettalic colors.

And as for it not matching Norik and Iruini: I’d argue that the build, the weapons, the mettalic color, all are enough to make it match Norik and Iruini. Having black accents would be a nice touch, but far from a requirement, especially if it creates too many colors. And if you’re wanting to do a split mettalic like this, having black and grey does create too many colors, IMO.

paint them
Yeah, I ran into the same issue when I was making my own Pouks – only one set has it, and only one of it. Hence why I used a different limb color.

I’ve never painted pieces, I’m not opposed but I imagine that my attempts may not be the best

I’m not saying you should paint them to the color you need – that was mainly intended as a joke. (though if you do opt to go that route, far be it from me to tell you not to)

Well I would like that color actually but its again just a practicality thing. I’m pretty full time on finishing my clinical rotations at the moment so my own convenience is probably going to win out. I supposed keeping the grey in the same scheme like my Kualas can also add to uniformity, although I don’t think both of my designs are sure shot winners. I want to stay true to my designs while also canon designs we have so far, blagh so hard.

If anyone knows any really good painting tutorials for the metru brown, I am open tho

Well done!

I’m sad that people have used the armor I was gonna use on my Bomonga entry to make it stand out, rip, but oh well

Thank you! Don’t let anything stop you though… because thats going to be a naturally occurring issue thats gonna happen a lot

It’s been said before, but I’ll say it again, the split colors are an excellent idea, and one I never would’ve thought of in a million years.
