Toa Kanohi (Voodoo Head inspired pocket Toa)

These guys are inspired by the the concept art for Voodoo Heads and the prototypes shown off by Christian Faber. I wanted to re-imagen early Toa with these mocs. Like a reimaged version of Bionicle where the Mata torso didn’t exist and Toa where built like Slizers. As such, I not only wanted to keep the gear operated pivot in the torso from the Slizers, I also wanted to ad an action function into each toa, so that they can knock each others masks off. And lastly, I wanted each toa to also fold into themselves to fit into their canisters, again just like the Slizers did.

Since part of the idea behind these mocs is Toa but Slizers, I wanted to tackle their lore with the same mind set. With a bit of Bera Magna mixed in. On an island called Motu Kanohi (which roughly means “Mask Island” in Maori), robotic beings fight for survival. The island itself is a volatile mixture of extreme biomes. Running rivers of lava, stormy deserts, raging shores, wild jungles and raging blizzards plague the island on a daily basis. On this land, robotic beings known as Toa fight the elements, animalistic robots known as Rahi and each other for fuel. Wild lightning, Bio fuel, Thermal energy, Hdyro fuel, Wind energy, Hyper coal, Cryo fission and Solar energy. These are the resources that Toa fight to posses, for themselves and their villages. When a dispute between villages occurs, all parties involved go to the arena in the center of the island. There, the Toas of the village involved will compete in battle, the winner of the fight will also be the winner of the dispute.

For the name of these Toa, I wanted to give them the names of Slizers but with a twist. All the Slizer names will be roughly translated into Maori. So, The yellow toa is named Pupuhi (Blaster). The Green toa is named Ngaherehere (Jungle). The red toa is named Rama (Torch). The Purple toa is named Korakora (Spark). The White toa is named Haupapa (Frost). And lastly, the blue toa is named Waka Moana (Submarine/Seaboat for Scuba).

I also thought that these guys scaled well with my Rahi mocs, being small enough to be legitimately threated by them (unlike with my 2001 style Toa mocs). So, here are pictures with them together.

These builds are really nostalgic and beautiful. I cannot believe you based this MOC on Voodoo Heads.

These are awesome! I love how they have attack features for the early Bionicle action and the Slizers ability to be stored in those pod things.

This is gonna sound like a backhanded compliment, but I actually really like how clunky and odd-looking they all are. It really reminds me of Slizers, which I guess was the point, after all. Also, where did you get the yellow Mahiki on Pupuhi and purple Hau on Korakora? I know Ziontyro sells multicolored Haus, but that Mahiki is a total mystery.

Thanks! that was what I was going for. I really like odd chunky mocs in general and would like to see more of them around, like the good old days.

As for the masks, I got them from the sellers Om3g45n1p3r4lph4 on Etsy and Kennie Custom Design Store.

Made another one

This is Kiriweti (Granite in Maori), a Voodoo Toa version of Granite from throwbots. It has a fuction where if you pull a ball joint on its back, its tail slams down like a hammer!

If I make any more I’ll post them here. See ya!

Granite is literally the only Slizer I own, so I’m glad to see a Toa-fication. The design is very unique, but is there any particular reason for the black left feet? Not a problem, just curious.

I was missing some pieces. The feet are supposed to be tan and grey, the black parts are substitutes. I’ve ordered the pieces on bricklink, I just didn’t want to wait so I took the pictures before it got here.

Glad you like the Toa-fication

Ah, gotcha.

Some matoran for these Toa. I wanted them all to be different sizes from each other while still being shorter than the (Pocket) Toa Kanohi. Also yes, dispite their build these are not Turaga. I wanted to build them this way to differentiate them from the Mctoran of 01, while also filling out the requirements I set in the earlier sentences above.
Also, the Turaga build allows them to have play fuctions.

The Matoran villagers of Motu Kanohi are usually safegaurded in their village walls, hiding from the elements outside. However, there are a few brave matoran that traverse the wilderness with their village toa. They assist their Toa in seeking fuel for their village.

This is Piki (which means climb in maori)

This is Wira (which means wheel in maori)

This is Weranga (which means buring in maori)

This is Kiri (which means climb in maori)

When two groups of Toa and Matoran meet, there is a risk of battle between groups, espicialy if one group posses fuel.

New one. This is Kaieke Wa (name roughly translates to time rider in Maori). He is a Toa that can transform into a car, his car mode inspired by Throwbot’s Turbo. With his transfomation gimick and Vahi on his face, you could say that he is a toa from out of Time.
