Hello, TTV-ers! It iz I, za RedPandalorian, coming back to post the models I’ve been working on for a small while. I built the first half when I was trying to get out of MOC block because the limits of the parts inspire creativity! Here they are!
And those are my models! Please give name suggestions for the unnamed models, and tell me what you think about them! I will edit this post to have my favorite ones of the names you come up with!
The unnamed eel is a crime against Mata Nui and the unnamed yeti is just Kopaka with severe deformities (me fr). Also, not every model uses every part, as the gold masks are missing and you skipped the kibble from Pohatu in his build, so I’m suing you for false advertising
I like the scorpion; it reminds me of a subterranean Kofo-Jaga, so would Onu-Jaga (“Earth Scorpion”) work as a name?
I also like the Fire Bear.
I like everything of the unnamed bird except the left foot, though I know parts limitations are a major factor. I feel like its hook-like tail is notable–how about Hook Swimmer?
I like the yeti, although I’m not a fan of the parts usage on its lower body. What about Ice Brute as a name?
I have no idea what I’m looking at with the Ussal Nui.
The eel has a rather uneven texture; is it perhaps ill?
I feel as though your determination to use every part held you back in a few cases. I can understand your reasoning, but results matter as much as motivation, if not more.
Thanks. I wouldn’t call the scorpion the Onu-Jaga, mainly due to the fact that the name wouldn’t make sense if the model were recolored, which happened to many rahi in Bionicle.
Thanks! I took some inspiration from MoL for the proportions, which is probably why the model looks presentable.
Thanks! The left leg was the last thing I built, which was when I realized I didn’t have enough parts to finish it. I have a feeling that I could have avoided that horrible leg if I had restarted, but I was having MOC block at the time, so I had no ambition to do so. Hook swimmer is a good name. I might translate that into Maori and use it for the name.
How do you like the yeti? The reason why the shield is being stored on the rear is that I forgot to put it on, so I slapped it on at the last minute in the only area it would fit. Well, the front side was an option too, but the voodoo ball sticking out in that region suggests something about the ball element… Be grateful that I chose the backside lol.
The first picture shows the front of the Ussal Nui. The open ball joints at the tops of the Slizer limbs are eyes. The Kakama behind the eyes is being used for shell shaping. The Mata legs and Pohatu kicks holding the model up are the legs. The eyestalk is a tongue. I was expecting at least someone to say something about the readability of the Ussal Nui, so this doesn’t surprise me that much.
Makuta infected it.
I despise it when there are extra parts in alternate/combiner models. In fact, I made alternate Toa Kaita models a few years ago that used every part because of this hate. Also, whenever I get a new LEGO set, I use the extra parts to either build something or add to the main model, just because I hate extra parts so much. I think some areas, more than others, show my limit hindering the results, but my hate is too strong, so I kept them like that.
This list is made with a joking intent. If it sounds angry or like a rant, do not take it seriously. This warning is to any person who reads this reply and takes it the wrong way.
Me neither. There is the smallest possibility I will go back and fix it.
I agree. I will likely rebuild him for fun in the future.
True. He was originally gonna be a snake, but I had way too many extra parts, so I added many extra parts to the tip of the tail which made it more eel-like, hence turning it into an eel. I can think of several ways that I can make an eel out of bonkle parts, but the ones from Lewa are not the best for that.
That is the only upside. I was happy when I dismantled him lol.
I like blocky bonkles. Reminds me of many of the early rahi sets.
This model has many interpretations! I might rebuild it to have more easily readable eyes…
The Toa Cat seems to be an obscure set. I can’t find them online…
I think you’re getting that one confused with the more color-accurate Catxalara T-9, although this moc is still verty parts-heavy. I would recommend adding slight pressure to the model for a moment, on the top of the head, preferably with the inside of one’s hand, and potentially continuing that slight pressure along the length of the model’s topside, to ensure an even distribution.
My versions of the set are the versions that don’t come with the CD-ROM, so it still counts as using all the parts. Hehehe.
It seems that because I’m not an OG, I didn’t see the 8th Toa, Toa Cat, on store shelves. In addition, there are quite a few LEGO products that haven’t been cataloged, which explains why I can’t find any Toa Cat sets online. Also, I pat my Toa Cat every day! The parts are pressed down as far as they can go.
I like the Gali Bird and the Onua Scorpion, they genuinely look like classic 2001 Rahi. The fact that you managed to make them using only pieces from the Toa Mata sets is quite impressive!
I really like the scorpion! The fire bear is nice too. Others are a bit hit or miss but generally good, the eel is the only real dud.
Overall, nice job!
The scorpion is easily the best one, but the bear is also really cool. I also like the blue one but it doesn’t really read as a bird to me.
The yeti looks like something your little brother would make after sneaking into your room and playing with your Legos despite having already told him no 37 times, and I kinda love that about it.
So, as others have said, the eel is uh, unique. That said, the scorpion, bird, and bear are real standouts here! A cool little build challenge, with some neat little results.
The Unnamed Scorpion is probably my favorite, too.
I think the Unnamed Bird looks very 2001. The scorpion’s tail uses a whole lot of building techniques that don’t feel very ‘01, but the aesthetic of the parts still is in the era.
I don’t think of it being that impressive, seeing what more talented builders, such as @I_Chew_On_Krana, do with a very limited parts pallet.
The reason why I went for that way of making a bird is that it stays within the realm of 2001 birds to make it a dino-bird. I like it when the builds match others, so I’m keeping that general shape.
Now that you point it out, it does look like the abomination of a young builder. It was weird seeing you say
Seeing the other yeti hate (including myself, it is the worst of the bunch).
