Toa Tuyet, last of the Tuyets

A new challenger approaches!

I am not much of a moc’ist. But ironically enough, I was actually kind of intrigued by the discourse around metru torsos! I fiddled around with some builds for the Hagah, and didn’t love what I came up with. But the muse struck me, and I started toying with the blue torso and some silver pieces….

Ta-da!

The Barbed Broadsword…
It has a large, singular barb on the end - pointing the wrong way to hook into an opponent. It’s a technicality, but I just wanted an oversized toa tool and this was the piece that attracted me

So here’s my own take on my own moc:

The biggest concern with making a contest MOC is that you have a sea of similar builds to contend with, particularly so when there’s a lot of restrictions. There is a sea of blue and black Tuyets out there, and as menacing as that looks, it is a little muddy and makes her almost comically dark. I envisioned the Toa Mangai as seasoned warriors, having battled dark hunters and dangerous Rahi numerous times. This Tuyet is more battle-focused, with a large sword, heavy armor, and sharp edges everywhere. I imagined her as someone who grew to love her strength over others, naturally leading her to covet the Nui Stone and its unimaginable power. This is not a sickly, scheming Tuyet but a Lord-ess who would rule the universe with an iron fist if she could get away with it.

I wanted something a little outlandish. Hence the red as the accent color. Water can be red sometimes, right? The silver was a must. Black was too drab for my tastes. Blame it on my love for anime, but she quickly became very armored as I tinkered. I particularly like the spikes around her torso.

Speaking of anime, the “wings” on her shoulders were an interesting thought. In my mind, they don’t serve any real function, it’s just a way to emphasize her movement and power.

How to make a feminine build without the unfortunate “boobs” that pop up too much? (in my prudish opinion, don’t @ me) In the lore, female and male are more of a programming mindset as opposed to an important biological distinction, so I didn’t feel like it made a lot of sense to differentiate gender to an extreme extent. She isn’t chunky, or bulky, but tough and well-armored. The Hero Factory feet give her some height and form a bit more of a heel to balance this out.

Overall, I’m quite happy with this MOC. It became a labor of love, and I learned how to airbrush as a result of this project. Her mask was a little too dark, but a blue mask of Intangibility was a must, even if artists could change it later. I didn’t really enter to win, so I’m really satisfied just being able to show you guys that “hey, I made a cool thing!” Credits to KhingK for the mask of Intangibility (Great Mask of Intangibility (X9NYSSMS2) by KhingK)

ooo very nice
im not huge on the big lack of blue, but the red is a nice accent!

it really could do with more blue, but the red is rather nice.

This is certainly different from most other Tuyets I’ve seen, I’ll give you that. I like the armoring, it looks very knight-like. nice moc
