And the final figure for my Legacy Mangai series, Toa Tuyet
This is absolutely not a contest entry just to be clear lol. But it was inspired by the discussion surrounding the contest, I had created Nidhiki on a whim, followed up with Lhikan, and finally decided to round it all off with the baddie herself.
I received some comments about how ridiculously large the scythe and shield were for the other two, so I decided to make a ridiculously large sword for Tuyet. I’m a manga/anime fan and large weapons are something that always tickles me. For a fantasy series where we have protagonists fight everything from demon types to literal dragons, why not give them massive unrealistic tools that no one irl could wield?
I promise this is the last G2 mask I paint lololol.
I wanted to find a paint that matched the gunmetal grey, and while this paint isn’t exaaaaactly it, it’s a nice balance between the silver and gold of the other two. I know canonically they don’t have metallic armor, again these are non-canon representations.
For a little bit more information, when I was a kid I had an almost 100% complete Bionicle collection of G1. I was one of those kids that when they got older, got rid of the collection bc it was time for me to become “an adult,” from pressure from family and societal expectations etc etc whatever. At least I know who it went to, and those kids enjoyed them for a long time, so I don’t feel as badly about it.
In 2020 one of my childhood friends bought me Tahu Nuva, Toa Iruini and Norik during the very first lockdown. It re-ignited my love for Bionicle and the desire to build again. Having once owned almost the entire G1 collection, I don’t really care to have it again, instead focusing my collection on a series of MOC’s that I can design that carry the spirit of the characters that I loved. In that vein, I am a lot more willing to paint pieces I need, modify as needed, etc etc. I am by no means a purist, I just want to create figures that I like, that look good to me, and to share them with the community that I hadn’t realized before a few years ago was still thriving and vibing.
