Since the new season starts on Sunday, I thought that now would be the time to create a topic
Top Gear is a British TV show that focuses mainly on cars. It was created by the BBC and originally started as a very factual show in 1977. Unfortunately, due to dwindling audience numbers, the show was ultimately cancelled in 2001.
However, one of the show’s former presenters, Jeremy Clarkson pitched a new idea of the show to the BBC along with producer Andy Wilman. They managed to relaunch the show, but this one was more about the comedy than the facts. The show ended up being presented by Jeremy, Richard Hammond and James May.
Unfortunately, the show hit another bump in the road when Jeremy was fired from the show after allegedly abusing a producer on the show. After this controversy, James, Richard and Andy also left and reunited with Jeremy to eventually produce a new car show for Amazon.
For this new season, the presenters consist of Chris Evans, Matt LeBlanc, Eddie Jordan, Chris Harris, Sabine Schmitz and Rory Reid
I’ve loved Top Gear for a long time, and the season premier was just sad. I know that not Captain America Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc haven’t had time to get a good rapport going, but the challenges just felt like they were there for the sake of being there. The ‘Extra Gear’ portion of the show was the best bit of the show, and it wasn’t even technically a part of the show. I hope it gets better with time like Top Gear US has, but for right now, it’s pretty much dead on arrival.
