“You assume they are close enough to help, recieve the signal, get here, or handle the defenses themselves.”
“You’ve clearly never delt with Star Talons before.”
Axis replied with a smug grin.
“I have not, so forgive me for not having the same level of confidence you have. My point however is, you need to plan for every possibility you can. Iota and his forces are an unknown quantity. We don’t know what they are capable of, so you cannot take anything for granted.”
“But at that rate you’ll just assume the worst out of everything, and then we won’t get anywhere.”
“Hope for the best, plan for the worst. It’s fine to rely on what assets you have, but you should always be sure to have a contigency plan. If your friends aren’t in range? What will you do then? Then, you come up with a plan for that. It’s not about Pessimism, it’s about realism. I was a spy, and you don’t live long as a spy without contingency plans. You MUST prepare for failure.”
“Well the ship is plan A. Reinforcements are plan B. But I don’t have much after that.”
“Which is fine, if that’s all you have to work with. All right kid, you seem to have a good head on your shoulders, I’m in.”
“Oh. Well, thanks. Glad to have you on board.”
Axis said, caught off guard somewhat.
“Don’t be too surprised kid.” he said, noting the look on her face, “I was never against the idea, but I’ve seen too many reckless attempts, and everyone involved get slaughtered. You kids seem to be willing to slow down and plan, so I’m happy to help.”
“Well the most tou can do now is try to get in others. The entire point right now is spreading awareness.”
“be careful kid, there could be moles.”
He gives a slight grumbling sigh and grabs what he thinks would be the best place to start dragging him to the barracks. Railgun and Machbreaker come and assist, grabbing different areas to help carry. Their leader looks at Tie-Grabber, very clearly wanting to know what happened, but the crane simply replies with, “Later.”
Nebula positions herself under Maximus’ head, and lifted him up. Maximus wasn’t exactly a big bot, but a dragon is a dragon, and she was still a minicon. So the additional help was much appreciated.
They carry him to the barracks and lift him up to set him on the charging bed. Railgun glances at Tie-Grabber, but knew he wouldn’t get an answer from him yet. He could see it in his face, the crane’s eyes almost looked glazed over by something. Whatever it was, he wasn’t entirely here still and not ready to talk.
So instead Railgun turns to Nebula and asks, “Is this to be reported to anyone or just let him rest?”
“Let him sleep it off. The kid’s mind was a mess, so I figure he needs this to cool off for a bit. No need to drag anyone else into this.”
“Very well,” Railgun replies. “Would you mind joining us for a game? Machbreaker has the console in your base functioning.”
Machbreaker has started to head there already, he need to finish that custom controller. Tie-Grabber didn’t so much follow after Machbreaker as much as dragged along by the sled.
“Sure. Couldn’t hurt too much.”
Nebula said pleasantly.
Railgun stretches out an arm and brings it back to himself in a horizontal motion about waist level, essentially doing an “after you” gesture. He had no intention of leading Nebula to her own base, that would be quite arrogant. No, she was a fellow team leader like him and would be respected as such. His intention was that they walk together, even if letting her go a little head of himself.
If he didn’t, he imagined Nebula might just punch him in the face. Or at the very least comment something on how rude it was to just walk on ahead to her own home to mess with her equipment. Really, an invitation back to her base to play with her games in of itself could have gone very poorly, so Railgun just counted his blessings. He only hoped that this would be taken correctly as well. Civilian interaction wasn’t quite his thing after all, just a military bot.
“That would mean someone here decided to side with the Vex, the ones keeping us here, over their own people. Don’t know about you but that doesn’t sound all that likely.”
“Well aren’t you the charmer.”
She said with a sarcastic grin, as she started walking back to their den.
“You’d be surprised what people will do out of greed or desperation. I agree with you, i doubt those here would willingly turn against is, but who knows what leverage Iota has on them. Not to mention, Iota may have a loved one he could use. Just mentioning the possiblity. Again, as a spy, you have no idea the measures I had to take to keep the silence. Loose lips sink ships, as the old saying goes.”
