TRON movies

Yeah I’ll always wonder if it would have bombed if it pulled through. It wasn’t enough that they already practically got rid of Tron in Legacy. It was sad that they didn’t get Daft Punk to come back for the soundtrack instead of Skrillex. It probably wouldn’t be that bad because one thing that people always seem to never mention is that Daft Punk collaborated with Joseph Trapanese for it, he also did Tron Uprising. I only thought some of the music was recognizably Daft Punk. I’d bet the rest was Trapanese and Daft Punk gave it all the computery razzle dazzle and then Disney just put their name on the album for name recognition. So they would probably get another soundtrack specialist to collaborate.

As far as Uprising goes it doesn’t really return to the inside a computer theme but I still strongly recommend it because its almost like its own great thing

Not gonna lie. I didn’t like legacy at all so I’m not very disappointed.

I seem to be one of the few who loved Legacy to bits. But even so, I didn’t even know a third movie was still happening. I thought the plug had been pulled long ago. I guess it’s a shame, but I never had my hopes up anyway.

I personally quite liked Legacy. It wasn’t perfect; Sam’s role in the outside world was a bit unclear, the way a lot of the programs acted didn’t seem quite program-ish in comparison to those from the original movie, (Mainly in the scene at Castor’s bar) and it failed to flesh out the central theme of pefection as much as it should have.

But regardless, the soundtrack is amazing, the setpieces absolutely impressive, and despite the aforementioned issues, there really is a lot more substance there than a lot of people are willing to give it credit for, which I find kind of sad, to be honest. Of course, I may just be biased, as it’s frankly a rather nostalgic experience for me, that brings to mind a lot of positive memories that are only tangentially related.

Shame about Tron 3 getting the boot. Maybe we’ll get it in another twenty years or so?

Shame about Tron 3 getting the boot.

Current status:

Programs and Users alike are attempting to decipher AMC’s vague Legacy/Ares Imax double feature announcement.

Ha, it’s very funny to look back at this post 10 years later. In the past decade, I’ve written multiple essays in college and university about how much I loved Legacy and its deeper themes, I’ve built a plethora of TRON-themed MOCs (which I really need to get around to publishing sometime) and TRON: Ares is coming out in just over a month, which I’m tentatively excited for.

Indeed, the perfect summary of current sentiment surrounding the film. I do wish the marketing department could have, if only slightly, reflected the marketing campaign of Legacy. But I suppose social media icons, tik toks, and such are what the youth are into these days…

Now, this popcorn bucket trend. Interesting design. Though, it is humorous to witness so many confused by the new Identity Disc design when TRON 2.0 already had paved the way for unique designs. (It would be nice for a little shout out to 2.0 in the new film.)

Let’s see how well the IMAX advanced screening does, perhaps a gauge into the future…

Regardless, at least the fans have these. (With updated CGI on CLU 2.0, so I’ve heard.)

So, who’s ready for Morbius 2 Tron Ares?

I never suspected the amount of morbheads I would encounter. But, here we are.

Very simple plot-wise, perhaps too simple for some, but much in ways attempting to appeal to the fans of the 1982 Tron with slight connections to Legacy. Much like how Star Wars appealed to the OT in Force Awakens as an attempt to reignite the casuals due to the divisiveness of the Prequels.

I mean, even the End Credits and the Mid Credits Scene chef’s kiss

Having been introduced to Tron 82 by my relatives during the hype that was the upcoming Legacy, it was nice to take them to see Ares as a thank you for introducing me to such a wonderful cult classic of a franchise. And according to them, the film took them back to their youth and was satisfactory.

Now, I saw the motion picture at an immersive type theater. The sound quality, really in-depth during that LightCycle Chase to the point I began to imagine myself driving such a vehicle. Radical, man…

The young children in the theater were mesmerized, clapping, laughing, slightly frighten, but thank goodness they did not cry uncontrollably (I’ve waited 15 years little one, now is not the time to burst into tears.). And I was able to find two other Tron Fans, so it is nice to know there are Users within my 100 Mile Radius.

And I was able to show off my homemade Identity Disc. Truly, was a good theater experience.

Now, when time has passed, perhaps I’ll make a compilation of all the smaller callbacks to the franchise.

Safe to say, see you again in the Grid in 20 years. (Well, hopefully not too long, since the film is very, very poised to return to Legacy’s storyline more heavily.)

END OF LINE…
