There’s a level of truth to that, but that kind of thinking can also lead to rejecting music out of hand purely because it’s mainstream or popular.

Pop music should stop being a genre of music because its only definition is “music that is considered popular”, popular enough that we must all suffer the torture of hearing it played in all businesses and stores.
I think nowadays it’s mostly just a holdover from the days of the boy band and that 90s era music when pop had its own kinda sound

Movie soundtracks should not include music that has already been released outside of the movie (i.e. singles used within the movie, songs that have been on the market for at least a few months before promotion begins, and so forth).
Why not?
Because some soundtracks, like that of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, are composed mostly of songs that have been released for years, sometimes decades before the movie was made. Therefore, it would be reasonable to assume that the music could be purchased already from the artist or record company that owned the music.
This is probably just me thinking this, though. I just feel like it’s redundant to make a soundtrack that anyone could make in Spotify. I don’t mind as much if it’s new versions of the songs (for instance a remix of the Mission:Impossible theme) because then those versions wouldn’t exist without the movie. It’s the resale of existing music that annoys me, because it’s like how some other industries will repackage an existing product just for the money, rather than take the time to change or improve it.
Haircomb is the best musical instrument. So haunting, it pulls you in
No joke, I used to like that song but now I can’t stand it anymore.
