Unpopular opinions about music

I despise AC/DC.

I read a funny comment about them from I don’t remember where that said this about them: “The only difference between AC/DC and Nickelback is that AC/DC was at the right place at the right time.

And it’s true.

Good grief, first Queen gets dissed and now AC/DC? They’re some of my favorite bands…

Here’s my hot take: Almost all rap and hip-hop I’ve heard contributes nothing to the music scene, both in sound and message.

Singing about affairs, baby mamas, money, and unmentionable stuff is neither talent nor art and just because you can talk real fast and rhyme well doesn’t mean you’re a musician. Most of it uses too much hi-hat as well, meaning many of the tracks sound way too similar to each other. Just because it’s got a good rhythm doesn’t mean it’s music too - it might be good for workouts or something for those rhythms, but I’d be embarrassed to call myself a musical artist if all I did was put fast-paced poetry to a backing track.

Agree with your opinion on rap music for the most part, but as far as my comment on AC/DC goes….

…Look I like A LOT of classic “party” rock bands and I mean a lot. Van Halen (with David Lee Roth), KISS, Guns N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe, just to name a few.

But, I’ve never could get myself to enjoy AC/DC that much. Can’t take the screeching vocals of both Bon Scott and Brian Johnson, the one-dimensional-guitar playing, can’t stand bands who make the same song over and over and over again. I mean once you’ve heard Back In Black…you’ve heard all of AC/DC’s songs.

At least with the bands I mentioned…they made different sounding songs and albums and their music has some depth to it. There is absolutely no depth and anything creative about AC/DC’s music.

Reading such lively discussion can only bring to my mind that one sketch between parodies of Creed, Pearl Jam, and Ray Charles on singing styles.

Honestly, fair. They’re probably not the most distinct in every song and yeah the vocals aren’t for everyone. Additionally, yep, their “High Voltage” album is mostly just the same song with different lyrics. I could probably mash “It’s a Long Way to the Top” right into “High Voltage,” then play “Live Wire” and no one would notice they’re different.

I think my love for AC/DC stems from my dad loving them. Probably more nostalgia than anything.

My unpopular opinion about music is I can’t stand Bruce Springsteen. Just don’t get the appeal at all of his music and never bought into his “working man for the little guy” schtick.

Other unpopular opinions of mine:

  1. I hate Pearl Jam’s music and think they made only one good album which was their debut album Ten (1991).
  2. I think 90’s grunge is so overexposed these days and the nostalgia for it needs to decline.
  3. The 2000’s were a far superior decade for not just rock, but music in general (excluding the Late-2000’s).
  4. 90’s Metallica is far superior to 80’s Metallica and current day Metallica.
  5. I don’t care about 80’s thrash metal and traditional heavy metal music in general.
  6. I hate everything Radiohead made from Kid A-present.
  7. I have always hated Limp Bizkit. Cussing as much as you possibly can with some rock musicians playing heavy music isn’t good rock music let alone good music period.

Solid agreement here. This is exactly why I hate most rap as well. Music based on pure degeneracy just isn’t appealing if that’s not your lifestyle.

Travis Scott = lame

Gonna lose it if I hear that “wiggly wobbly” song one more time.

Wiggly wobbly wiggly wobbly wiggly wobbly wiggly wobbly (stumbling violently)/ colliding with a trolley/ while getting bludgeoned at Ollie’s®️/ STOP THIS INSANITY!!!

On a more intelligent note, does anyone else find most modern versions of Christmas songs to have an excessive amount of breaks between lines?

To your second point…excessive additions are a second concern. I suppose the artist must reflect on their ability to flex their vocal chords.

To the first point, a remedy.
