VMR-64 (Rebel Nature Contest Entry)

Here’s my entry to the latest Duckbricks contest, this time created as a 3D scene in Blender because I couldn’t be bothered drawing this robot’s head. The name stands for “Variable Mission Robot #64”, meaning it’s the 64th robot of a model designed to be used for different missions and purposes.

This scene depicts the robot (VMR-64) booting up after being abandoned, in front of the structure that it chose to be its hideout. It was designed to be a combat robot, but it doubted its missions and was torn down and deactivated due to disobedience. After reactivating (perhaps by Res), it starts looking for its former armour, as the depicted form is lacking in combat abilities.

The process of creation:

This started with random splotches of watercolours on paper, where I found some interesting ideas, including this one I vibed with.

Here’s a GIF of modeling the robot and scenery, as well as composition and final touchups.

I hope you found that interesting, and make sure to vote for your favourites in the contest when it’s time.
