[W.I.P.] Concept Art Skull Warrior

Updates going from 10/10/17 and beyond that are most likely going to be found in the last post of the topic

As a huge lover of concept art, and someone who is very much willing to present their M.O.C.-ing skills, I decided on creating one of the Skull Villain concepts.

-This here being based off the purple, Skull Basher-like, warrior concept:

Arm Build/Overview

Leg Build/Overview

Authors Notes

  • The color, all the red will be soon changed to trans-purple.
-I might change some of the CCBS bones to purple in the legs.
-The trans-red rib-cage will be changed to regular silver.

  • The little two Exo-Force arms are something temporary I am still considering whether I should keep as they give off a more armored look. (Opinions on this will be highly sought after)

  • The torso, from the back-photo/@Nyran shot, is a make-â– â– â– â– â–  temporary construction meant to help me with capturing shape. I am still considering whether this should just stay as a regular gear-function, (Hint, hint, opinions needed).

  • The horns, which are nearly as long as in the concept, were probably the best-looking option, without getting in the way, or just looking awkward.

  • The weapons will come later.

I think his head is to far into the torso.

I’ve considered it, as in the concept art it sticks out beyond the torso piece. Although, even the shortest length CCBS bone just makes it look awkward and hunched. I believe this is something an alternate torso can fix?

The ribs are cool, and the chest better pictures that are less foggy would be nice

I wanted to lazily go with a Skull Villain 2015 ribcage piece, but, in the end, I went with the more accurate ribs. The picture quality is something I understand, but, there are a few issues keeping me from doing it.

I think the torso could be a bit taller and the ribcage a bit narrower. It looks too short and bulky as it is, and it seems like that’s how it varies from the concept art. I like the upper body and legs. The horns don’t look right, but I agree that there probably isn’t a better option (definitely not one that I could think of).

Edited title to get rid of possible confusion - Jack_Frost

Those lower arms are the definition of overdesigned, there is no reason that shouldn’t just use a size 3 bone.

The exposed technic on the back should be covered.

Otherwise it’s pretty alright.

Why are his lower arms build that way instead of just using a normal CCBS bone?

The lower arms are more complicated then they need to be.

You know, I’m quite a fan of the inherent design, to the degree that the sunken head and the foot design feel befitting of the character. However, I would take the step of lengthening the legs, mostly because they seem more realistic for a character with an exposed ribcage, as well as because the concept art seemed to illustrate the character in that style.

Yeah, Skull Basher was pretty burly, but it was a special kind of calculated, layered, burly; this guy could look a little more undead.

I was pretty sure that piece of concept art was more based on skull basher, given the purple, the horns, and the brutish appearance, but good MOC none the less. Can I use that forearm design?

why use the forearm design? it’s an overly-complicated way of not using a CCBS bone.

Because it’s a great way to replicate the length of the second shortest ccbs bone and still have an armor shell, and it looks great.

The back could use some coverage, but the design is otherwise pretty nice.

the moc has a lot of gaps in it, but otherwise I like this moc

@Jack_Frost Oh, what I would do without people like you.

@Payinku (Is that a “Hey, that’s pretty good” alright, or a “meh” alright?)

One step ahead of y’all, already changed it out. I was trying to give the arms an extra articulation point, but, it ain’t a deal of matter now.

@Toa_Kasai And yes, as Payinku stated, sadly, those are the same length as a size three bone. Possibly a cell shorter, sorry to disappoint. However, I have been working on a way to incorporate armor shells into size 2 CCBS bone pieces, (Nudge, nudge).

@Azani I’ll lengthen the upper legs up, as the lower leg area is already long enough as it is. Expect pictures tomorrow, and thank you for the detailed contribution.

@jayzor17 I’ll probably put pictures out of different horns for the public. What I can try doing for the torso is cleaning the lower half of it, as in, the tires and hand-connector piece. I may also try moving the entire construction up by one pinhole. Thank you for the detailed comment.

@Onepu123 What gaps would you specifically be talking about? If those are the ones in the torso, the rib attachment points/area is also meant to represent this “exo-skeleton”/decaying muscle, in a sense.

@Stoax The back is temporary, as I am still waiting for people to respond on whether I should keep the gear-function, or trying something different. As was attempted with the rest of the skull villain sets. Any quick-thoughts on that, since you brought that up?

I really hope to see that then.

Well, I took a bit too long with this.

Update #1 (6/4/17):
In summary, I fixed up the color displacements around the figure, and removed the hand-connecter and tire off from the pelvis area.

Here are some of the pictures, just two action shots and a size comparison.

Update #3 (10/10/17):
After a short months break I have decided to keep up with this topic, and am returning with a “weapons” update. Just to clear up, the decided final design is in the warrior’s left hand (our right), meanwhile the one on his right arm (our left) is a place holder to make the illusion he has two of said design for photos. One thing to also mention, I’ve increased the leg height by a single axle hole with friction adders. Please do share your thoughts and feedback, other than just likes.
