When I was trying to do some research on the Skrall species, I noticed that they had those maze like patterns on the blades that correspond to the Saw Shield’s patterns as well as the spikes on their shoulders.
I just want to know, what are those appendages that are on the Skrall? Also what significance do these blade like protrusions have? Is this also another reason as to why their race is different to Glatorian? If not what other factors were made in the Skrall that makes them biologically different to Glatorian? Please leave a comment down below.
They are armor, not appendages. Tuma is a member of the Leader class Skrall lineage, which for whatever reason is substantially larger than any other Skrall. Tuma is the only living member of the Leader class.
Many of these questions could be answered by looking at the BS01 page for the Skrall.
Actually there is more to this and @Au-Plau-Se is not that far off.
These “appendages” seem to be some type of species-wide biomechanical augmentation similar to Vorox’s tails. More specifically a combat augmentation that act as extra posable blades on the shoulders. Check out this cut scene from TLR movie:
That Skrall model is a prototype similar to this one:
But with even more complex build including the posable blades. It is likely a previously unseen prototype of Skrall set and the posable action had been cut due to budget reasons. But we still see the remnants in Tuma set, which still has limited posability in his four back blades, and this is maintained in the movie.
Not to my knowledge. I’m just talking about the original plan behind those blades. Having sharp shoulders is useful in combat, posable or not, so Skrall likely still have some benefit from them even in their realized iteration.
I would equate the function depicted in the deleted scene to the mechanical knife holders Brutaka possessed - not a true appendage. Still, it is an interesting piece of Bionicle trivia and makes me wonder what TLR would have looked like if these cosmetic alterations were retained along with the scenes they originated in.
I also wonder if this feature was based on any old prototypes. Obviously the “main” prototype image doesn’t have it, but perhaps there was an even older one.
