I personally think that the best story year was 2007 because it had the best written Toa, the best written villains’, and the coolest environment. The Toa were the best written because we had know Jaller, Matoro, Kongu, and Hewkii since 2001 and we had known Hahli and Nuparu since 2002 so they had a lot of screen time which gave them much more time for character development. The villains were also the best because they were very cruel and they often fought within their ranks; this is done to better effect in 2006 with the Piraka but its still good in 2007.

2006, because the Piraka were much cooler and much better written villains than the Barraki and they were given much more time and focus in the story to develop as characters and make us all fall in love with their antics.
Also, much more happened in 2006 with the Toa Nuva facing the Piraka first and failing and Jaller and company going to search for and rescue the Toa Nuva and then becoming Toa Inika. Plus, 2006 ended on a cliffhanger and it helps that Matoro didn’t get killed off.

I see that. I constantly change my mind whether 2006 or 2007 had a better story. I think its because, as Eljay pointed out in the 2007 overview, the story for 06 and 07 have a lot of base similarities. It just so happens that I prefer 2007’s story more at the moment. I am of the opinion that the ignition trilogy was the peak of Bionicle story.

I’m changing my answer to 2004 as I have just started reading the 2004 Bionicle books starting with Mystery Of Metru Nui and I’m in the middle of Trial By Fire…and already 2004 is becoming my favorite year for Bionicle at the moment.
