What's your oldest surviving MOC?

As the title suggests, I’d love to see what your oldest, currently still assembled MOC looks like! Even better if you remember its exact age and the story behind it. Here’s some criteria of what exactly I mean:

  • The MOC only counts if it is (mostly) still in its original form. Small mods and alterations made over the years are fine, so long as the build remains largely unchanged.
  • Accordingly, revamps or new iterations of the same model/character obviously don’t go here.
  • While “MOC” stands for “my own creation”, you can also share something you didn’t build yourself but still have in hand (you’ll see two examples below).

The first of mine is this… thing:

It should be roughly 10 years old at this point. I remember getting one of those Classic brick boxes for my birthday and originally used all the black, gray and white pieces to build a little cave with two eyes peeking out. Eventually I decided I should use every piece from the set on the build, resulting in this colorful abstract statue thingy. It’s weird, but for some reason all of us liked it (and still do) so it’s been on display in our living room ever since.

Next up we have this little 8-wheeled rocket car which I didn’t build myself:

I don’t remember the exact logistics behind it because it’s been too long, but I’m fairly positive my brother built this and gave it to me when I was like 3 years old. I instantly fell in love with it and have always kept it close, even ~15 years later it’s still quite special to me. It might be super simple, but I love my little rocket car exactly how it is and wouldn’t have it any other way.

Taking a quick detour into Bionicle, I can’t really offer much since I haven’t been a fan for that long. My current oldest MOC is Blazer, just shy of two years old at this point. It’s not an impressive number, but I’m sure there’s many more years to come since he’s probably my favorite thing I’ve ever built.

Now for the really special one…

This may not be a full-on MOC, but I figured it still counts. It’s a heavily modified version of the 850 tractor with double tires, a front loader and several structural reinforcements. We don’t know its exact age, but my dad built this when he was a teenager which should put it anywhere between 35 to 40 years!

It was standing untouched at grandma’s house for decades until I decided to take it into my collection and display it alongside the original set. Objectively it’s really not a pretty build but that doesn’t matter, I think it’s a cool relic that deserves to be preserved.

Now it’s your turn! I’m really looking forward to see your stuff!

minor typo, unsubscribing

Apart from the mismatched mudguards and the bucket’s colors, I think it’s actually pretty good! It’s cool to see a MOC from the old days of Lego, before all the tiny pieces came around.

I just packed up my oldest MOC in a box and now I can’t find it… but rest assured I will definitely be showing it off when I locate it.

My oldest surviving MOC will be the first one I make if I ever make a MOC.
