Story or not With lego / creative toys we always want them to continue just to make more monstrosities with the peices.
Bringing bionicle back is something a lot of people want myself included however even I know that it’s a very low possibility for bionicle to come return
if the generation one story was to be continued by Greg and given official approval by Lego the people in charged of it cant just plop new viewers into the middle of the entire story there would have to be new characters and storylines in conjunction with the original story in order to appeal to a new audience.
In the case of a bionicle G3 I personal would hope for whoever is in charge of the story does not follow the road of G2’s story as if i’m to give my opinion on the story for G2 it made very little sense and there was a lack of character development with lots of the cast.
If we as a community wish to “bring back bionicle” we need to not just ask “why?” But also “how?” as most of us here have seen the rise and fall of bionicle twice and it has left a void inside some people.
I enjoy bionicle a lot today as I did before and can say I would like to see bionicle return but i would wish for it to be done that appeals to both old and new fans in the world of today or the world of the future.
Galidor is still discontinued^
Well with galador even ignoring everything else the figures were very limited in form just swapping limbs. With bionicle and other non lego toys there’s almost no limits on what can be made.
There are hard limits on what can be made accurately. It would take many square bricks to accurately build Nick Bluetooth’s shoe. Galidor lives on in minifigure accessories where the designers try to integrate those in weird ways, like the “lamp shades” in the boutique hotel. It’s interesting to note that as long as the minifigure exists, good bionicle mocs can theoretically exist too. As far as I’m concerned, bionicle never went away, the geometry just became more spread out.
Not completely come back, but I still want Greg Farshtey to come back and continue where he last left off and complete the story he began. We’re still left hanging at those serials! After all these years, I believe we deserve an ending to them. For Karzahni’s sake, I’ve been working on a film for years that I haven’t finished but it’s always on my mind and nothing will stop me from finishing it and I will finish it even if I get nothing for it! It’s about honor and keeping to who I am.
I hope Greg manages to do the same. I believe him and trust him. He is one of my favorite authors right next to Michael Crichton and J.K. Rowling.
Now that’s a high honor for Greg Farshtey, to be placed in the same league as Greg Farshtey
Ooops! I meant Michael Crichton. Thanks for notifying me.
Heh.
Through sets are important part of BIONICLE, main reason I like BIONICLE is its story, its world, its characters. So main reason I want a G3 is to have a proper and good new BIONICLE story. I don’t want it to be a G1 continuation, for various reasons I will tell below.
World of G1 is already very much fleshed out, fully realized world. I would rather LEGO leave G1 alone and create a new BIONICLE world for G3. Not only this means we have two different BIONICLE worlds that are actually fleshed-out worlds, and not bare minimum like G2, but it also allows G3 more creative freedom by not being constrained by G1’s rules. Having it be separate also allows for new versions of existing characters, and I am all for that.
The story of G1 is so complex that continuing it at this point would be unwieldy for new fans. That is reason why the setting was shifted to Bara Magna in 2009. Not only that, but many including me disagree on some decisions made in G1, and having a new world means that those decision do not affect G3. I strongly dislike certain parts of G1, and would like to never see these again, so that is one of reasons why I want G3 to be new continuity.
This is not to say I am against the concept of a G1 continuation, just that it is not suited for a full blown revival of theme.
Who told you that we’re supposed to?
I did.
Personally, I just want one set: maybe a Toa mystery pack, something of that sort, where you get a blind box with, say, two random Toa and some special masks and weapon elements. And a comic book rerelease. But that’s all. Because I know this will likely annoy someone, but anything other than a straight-up rerelease will have serious problems in the minds of many fans, and also because I find it frustrating having to buy parts either from Bricklink, where it’s expensive, or EBay, where it can often be even more overpriced. It would be nice to have more of the CCBS and Bionicle parts without needing to buy them from expensive or unreliable sources.
Ah yes, the ever-loved surprise mechanics.
That’s just a good way to get kids to buy it. I just want the parts for cheap.
Lootboxes are good for cheap collectables, like Kanohi masks, because you can buy a lot at once and it won’t be that expensive. But when you’re selling two whole sets blindly, people are going to get upset. When Jimmy John asks his mom for the Red Guy for his birthday, what’s mom supposed to do? Just buy five packs and hope one of them is Tahu? It’s disrespectful and exploitative.
Sorry, I appear to be in the wrong here. I was thinking more like the parts packs, the giant tubs of random Bionicle parts that LEGO used to sell. Thanks for pointing out my errors.
I’m pretty sure that those big tubs weren’t randomized, either.
They weren’t, all of them each had definite inventories. I’ve got three copies of the 2006 tub and all three yielded the exact same spread of parts.
