This is a poem, but I think it applies
"If" by Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

“Life isn’t just about passing on your genes. We can leave behind much more than just DNA. Through speech, music, literature and movies…what we’ve seen, heard, felt…anger, joy and sorrow…these are the things I will pass on. That’s what I live for. We need to pass the torch, and let our children read our messy and sad history by its light.We have all the magic of the digital age to do that with. The human race will probably come to an end some time, and new species may rule over this planet. Earth may not be forever, but we still have the responsibility to leave what traces of life we can. Building the future and keeping the past alive are one and the same thing.” - Solid Snake

“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you’re there.

It doesn’t matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that’s like you after you take your hands away. The difference between the man who just cuts lawns and a real gardener is in the touching, he said. The lawn-cutter might just as well not have been there at all; the gardener will be there a lifetime.” - Granger, Fahrenheit 451

The paradox is the only truth, for it is true and yet a lie
It should make sense, yet it doesn’t, and they don’t even know why
But it is closer to reality than the straightforward sentences humans think make up their world
Because reality is not straightforward, its contorted, twisted, and swirled
Humans think the paradox is an interruption in their perfect logic
They believe the paradox is unnatural and chaotic
Their faith in their view of reality blinds them to the facts
Human logic distorts reality, the paradox puts it back
No equation should actually work, two plus two should equal five
The periodic table should be shaped like a tuba, inanimate should be alive
The earth should be flat and square, and animals should be rocks
And the secret to life, the universe, and everything should be the paradox-Paradox 2015ish

There are times when life becomes desolate.

When passion and purpose
Fade away
And we are left in the wake of the monotony that existence has become
beaten and weary
broken.

Times when the sun simply won’t shine for us.
Its golden rays
Turn to grey
And land upon blinded eyes.
We are left with only ashes,
Ashes of what remains…
What remains of our former selves.

Yet in our ashes we can revel,
find our souls once more.
Piece together what is left
and look to the skies for what will become.

Look to the skies and ascend.

Oh, I don’t know. I’m in a desolate time of my own; I doubt anything I can say will be all that much more motivational than it is depressing.

Always have a back-up plan and a back-out plan.
