Hello! After severals days (and weeks) of work I finally present you my submission for the Artakha art contest.
I recreated the scene in Reign of Shadows, were Artakha was seen for the first time after millennia.
I followed a more MOC accurate approach for the design, similar to the first BIONICLE comics.
I drew him from a low-angle to give him more high and imposing posture, without being overly aggressive. I originally intended to change the cape color to look more like a king, since the black one looks too tyrannical to my taste, but it was in conflict with the rules.
As there was no consensus about what Agori alphabet should look like, I used our universe runes to cover his body with various golden messages. I’m curious if you can translate them.
I drew and inked him on paper, and then scanned him to paint him digitally. I added the mask and cape after, since I hadn’t decided the design in that point.
First I want to say that I really liked the original MOC mask, but I couldn’t resist the opportunity to create one of my own.
The design is inspired in the concept art for the G2 Mask of Creation, as well the final G2 mask.
I tried to make a design that could be injection moulded, like if Lego produce it. This means that there are not part that cover other in a front view. I also made so it is compatible with the BIONICLE heads. I even made a plasticine model to see it in action, that at the end didn’t help me that much.
The design has the “third eye” of the MOC, the G2 Mask of Creation’s symbols and a maori ornamentation (but not much to not have legals problems again) to represent all the cultures in the Matoran Universe. The mouth part is a more traditional design similar to other Kanohi, and the lower patterns give him a beard look, wich give him a wise and a Dadtakha figure, like the father of the Toa Mata.
I really hope you like it. It has been a blast and a pain in the *** working on this.
Please leave your “best” Dadtakha joke below. This is mine:
“Onua, your claws were a ground-breaking creation.”
