The point is that, if the gearbox was done a different way than it ended up being such that it connected to a Vahki waist or some other waist that is not the equivalent of a full CCBS torso, the two problems I perceive with the BIONICLE 2015 sets’ torsos would be corrected.
@Hawkflight, is it too much to ask for proof-of-concept pics?
the fact that Kopaka’s eyepiece is on the wrong side in his phantoka form
that was pretty dumb
Yes.
@legomaster1378: I could draw one but it would be horrifying.
Wait wait, I think I got it.
@Hawkflight, what you’re trying to say is that you could connect a Vahki waist to the lower stalk of a remolded gearbox and use it as the hips, is that correct?
So I guess to get the idea, just take a Vahki waist, attach that to @DirefulSpy876’s piece via the axle hole, then pin that piece to the back of a gearbox. Thus, the hips should (I think) end up being in the same line as the shoulders, eliminating the shoulder-thrust.
I haven’t got a whole lot of time right now, but I’ll try and throw together a proof-of-concept in LDD later. Of course, that’s assuming that I’m actually understanding Hawkflight correctly, I’m not always that good at understanding people.
That sounds about right.
So since this was getting pretty off-topic and I had way too much to say about it anyway as it turns out, I made the Vahki waist torso proof-of-concept into its own topic. Hawk, feel free to drop by and let me know if I’ve got the idea right!
Back on topic, I don’t remember if it’s been mentioned but I never really liked the Barraki’s squid launchers. I mean sure, you can sometimes get a good shot if you do it exactly right, but it’d be even harder for small children to comprehend exactly how to hold everything than it is for a more mature person who’s actually looked up a tutorial just to find out how to get them working. At least with Cordak blasters you could just keep pumping the thing till they worked.
Only now did it occur to me that Telluris’s arms not only break his colour scheme, but look painfully dislocated
he also has blue pins spikes sticking out of his feet…and his torso is painfully flipped around… he also has eyes on the back of his head.
At least he’s not a Rahaga.
Does he? He doesn’t have Bohrok eyes on his Glatorian head.
Also, is that a dark red Metru chest piece on the back?.. Really LEGO? There was no other colour in your inventory that year?
I was making fun of how his helmet was one of the ones that you can flip around to show another face.
Meh. Unlike Firelord (who really has a face on the back of his skull), the Telluris’s alternate face could actually pass off as tapered fins on the back of their helmet.
Really, my biggest gripes are with masks and heads. I wasn’t a big fan of how the Inika’s masks were plastic, since they were the only ones like that. Either continue the trend, or don’t do it. I also wasn’t a big fan of Tahu and Gali Mistika’s masks (Onua’s looked pretty cool though). And I do wish the heads of Gen 2 figures were similar to the ones of Gen 1, rather than what we got. It would make MOCcing easier (you could finally have a character with a normal mask have their head on a Glatorian neck, without said head extending forward quite a bit), and would just provide some nice continuity. Also, the Gen 2 masks fall off rather easily, which is pretty annoying.
Hate to break it to ya, but almost every single BIONICLE mask is plastic.
I think the material you’re thinking of is “rubber”. ![]()
I think the designers wanted to make an all new mask system that was really focused on the play feature, which explains the lack of axleholes and the looseness of the masks. They sacrificed MOCing and display potential for play value (which is what LEGO is supposed to do anyway).
Yes, yes I was. Thank you. I feel rather silly now.
Fair point, though the looseness of the masks make them easier to lose, and it’s rather hard to play with something you can’t find. Also, if one wants to grab a character by the head while playing, that’s problematic, since the mask will come off.
personally, I prefer the new head and mask system. I don’t have to worry about snapping the axle off during particularly rough play.
yeah. and they work wonders as shoulder pads.
Hmmm, I’m pretty sure the designers were said at some point to have explicitly designed the G2 masks to pop off easily since back in 01 people complained about how loose the masks were (I don’t think they really understood the mask function back then). … yeah, it doesn’t make much sense to me either. ![]()
Hmmm, not sure I’ve ever had mask axles break on me. I’ve seen Metru-heads’ balljoints break off twice…
EDIT: Nevermind, just remembered that a buddy of mine had his Ruru’s axle break off.
