See, the Piraka make me think they’ll just reboot it, as they were so vital to the story, but they were such dark characters that Lego wouldn’t dare try and bring them back, and since the Golden-skinned Being is probably under Zaktan’s control (as he was the only one who willingly entered the vat), the Piraka are still at large

I wonder why you say that dark characters would be the first to be kicked out, if we get a reboot in terms of “restarting the story completely”. Of course the new storyline won’t be as elaborate as the old one, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be dumbed down to Hero Factory storylines ( which aren’t that bad, but it’s clearly not enough for most fans ), where the good always win and all villains are predictable and “dumb” targets.
The storyline of Bionicle got too complicated to start new stories in because you had to keep the older stories in mind as they were building up to the big Spherus Magna ending. A reboot could easily set several thousands of years in the future, as the current story arc is more or less finished.
I’m a bit more hesitant about all of this. So far we only got the leaked images of the sets and translated set names. How much do we really know ? To me, it seems that we just don’t have enough information to go on and say that it’s certain that we’ll be getting a “redo the story from scratch”-reboot, that Lewa now controls plantlife, that the Matoran are defenders and Toa are masters, etc.
It’s just too soon to make valid claims

@Iben Good point. Also we might not get matorans, since defenders seems like mindless robots (look: same masks) that defends (probably) masks. Also Keeping in mind reebot, we might not eaven get Mata Nui island… most likely new one… time for speculations!
@Creep, that might be true, but on the other hand, we can barely see the details of the masks. It could be possible that the outline of the masks are the same, but there are smaller and closer details that reveal small differences between the sets. And besides, all the same masks doesn’t really equal mindless robots to me. ._. Or else all Matoran with a different coloured Pakari were mindless robots as well, no ?
If we indeed get a “from scratch”-reboot, it might indeed feature a different island. If we get a “in the future”-reboot, it might still be on Spherus Magna.

@Iben well theres other theory for these defenders aswell: they might be matorans in some kind of armour/suit that will help defend golden masks in some shrine… till toa gets them, who knows. Also what do you thing about our orginal toa’s getting refreshed toa mata kanohi masks?

@Iben just think that with Lego’s present storyline levels that the Piraka would be unlikely to return. Hopefully I’m wrong, but we’ll see. I find that most of the time my speculation based purely on facts and not personal feelings (such as my deduction that it will most likely be a reboot, but that’s a different argument, and can definitely go both ways) is mistaken for what I want. I want Vezon to return. I want the Golden Skinned being to be explained with my personal theory that it’s Irnakk (although I’d accept any explanation)

That is of course, if we get a hard-reboot ( thank god for someone on BZP finding a decent term for both reboot possibilities xD ). Even if we get a total hard-reboot from scratch, there’s no certainty that the rebooted story will be anything like the old one. We get the original Toa, but there’s nothing that indicates that the rest of the storyline will be retold in a hard-reboot. They might just start over completely, with new story elements all together. But that doesn’t negate the presence of darker figures that were widely popular, whether they’d be old or new ones.
The “it’s going to be a reboot” can go two completely different ways, a hard reboot and the soft “in the future” reboot, so it’s more than one scenario. To me it would be surprising to see a hard reboot that would completely restart the storyline. It would be a kind of gamble, as Lego cannot be sure that the older fans would like it. They’re not their main target, but they’re part of their target audience. A soft reboot allows them to target at new kids and older fans. Which would result in a bigger group of people that might buy it.
But completely off-topic here, I’m quite certain Greg said the Golden Skinned being wasn’t Irnakk. It would be weird if they didn’t call it Irnakk when he already featured in the storyline xD

I don’t thinks so. Even if it is a reboot, “Lord of SKULL Spiders” sounds pretty dark.

Hard reboot/soft reboot have been terms for years in Comics lore (see: Crisis on Infinite Earths/New 52), but I honestly hoping for a good hard reboot. I feel like it’d be a great new start for the franchise.
