Maybe Umarak is Hunter no longer… But Makuta is…?
I like where this is going.

Ryder Windham needs a new proofreader.

EFtU has at least four mistakes, that I noticed.

Anyway, here’s how I think the Skull Raiders/skull baddies plotline makes sense:
Kulta and the Raiders arrive on Okoto. They’re beaten by Ekimu, Makuta, and the Protectors. Makuta, who’s planning to forge the MoUP at this point, makes a deal with Kulta. But he’s beaten, and the Raiders are trapped underground.
Years later, Kulta escapes. He plagues Okoto for a while, using his power to reanimate the dead – including those who died during the war against the Raiders. So, Kulta has undead raiders now, reanimated Scorpios, and whatever Basher is, possibly a former Skull Raider General who died in the war. Kulta also works with LoSS, seeking the Legendary Masks, then Makuta sends him to the CotMM. First, he finds the Mask of Creation. Then he goes to the city with Basher, leaving reanimated beings in his wake: LoSS, some Warriors, the Scorpios, Slicer, and Basher.
So, to Recap:
Skull Basher: Reanimated Skull Raider
Skull Warriors: reanimated Skull Raiders.
Skull Scorpios: reanimated Scorpios.
Skull Slicer: An old Okotan Arena champion who died and was reanimated.

Oh- so the skeletons are skeletons beacause they, well, died?

Maybe skeleton was their theme? Armor from fallen enemies. Then they died and came back with skeleton armor.

I’m going to comment only briefly on this whole “rumor” thing to present a bit of evidence that I believes strikes it down fully–simply, a breach of logic. The poster of the rumor stated that the manager of the LEGO store that informed them of the imminent cancellation received said information from another employee at the store, who happened to be a BIONICLE fan. This should instantly strike everyone as dubious, because why would a lesser store employee know about a cancellation prior to a manager? It simply makes no sense. The fact that this supposed employee is a fan of the line leads me to believe that either the employee was discussing the rumor and the manager misinterpreted it, or, more likely, that this is simply a poorly fabricated story. I think, either way, that we can safely disregard it, and that’s all I’ll say, so as not to drag discussion off topic…

Now, on the topic of the third chapter book, I’m glad to see that it provides a reasonable amount of backstory for the Skull Villains, and I love that they’re raiders from another land, partially because that’s how I originally envisioned them, and I’m excited that Ryder Windham and the rest of the story team are thinking along the lines of expanding the Okoto universe further. I haven’t gotten the book yet, but the few spoilers I’ve looked at are certainly piquing my interest!

If there are other “background” books forthcoming, I would want one of them to explore the ancient Okoto, possibly including the birth of the Creatures and Umarak’s backstory, as well as the creation of the Labyrinth of Control. Some material on the origin of the Mask Makers and their masks would also be great, and maybe even a little Mask of Time stuff. There certainly is a lot to choose from, which I really love about G2’s story. G1’s early years were mostly confined to one plotline, and while there were hints at the larger history, they weren’t introduced in an overt way until Metru-Nui came around, by which point we got a ton of info all at once. G2 has a lot of open ends and cool hints to keep us interested, and it’d be great to see some of them explored…

-Umarak, Creatures, and Okoto poof out of nowhere-
Umarak + Creatures: wat
Umaraky: o ye i’m gonna hunt you now!
-shoots bow pew pew-
-Creatures run and fly away.-
Akida just flops because Umarak is too much of a skrub to know how to walk.
Personal headcanon. :stuck_out_tongue:

However delving more into the origins of Okoto and these, ancient and mythical things would make for a pretty interesting book.

Ah, the old creation story. Tis an unusual turn of events.

I also agree on Okoto’s myths making for a good book. Maybe the constellations also have stories, like how the Big Dipper represents a bear chased by three hunters.

Did Umarak steal Pohatu’s australian accent?

I agree that something along the lines of Ekimu’s guide to the universe, except maybe not universe, would be really cool and world building

I know orders were to move on, buuut I felt the need to point out the two things that stand out the most to me.

Contradiction.

Rumor came up on Eurobricks. Contradiction.

It’s pretty obvious this guy is most likely a phony, and I’m honestly wondering if there should be some sort of policy against making claims about the status of the line while lacking real evidence. These fear mongerers bring up useless discussions and take up space on this topic, and it’s quite honestly annoying when there are other things to discuss.

I love that name. Seems like their species might use armor from their victims in order to make cruel and intimidating armor that scares their opponents.

So I read Escape from the Underworld. Since I saw other people posting about it here, and that there’s not another topic about it, I’ll assume this is where to discus it.
Escape from the Underground takes place between 2015 and 2016. This time Ryder Windham expands the lore of Okoto by introducing the Skull Raiders. While I have no problem them by themselves, Kulta’s retcon into being their leader raises far too many questions than answers.

While it is known that Kulta was the one resurrecting the skull villains, I was under the impression that he was undead too. His set is clearly as skeletal as the other sets but this book treats him as if he is still alive, making several references to him breathing. It could be argued that the Skull Raiders began to wither away after being trapped in a cave for centuries, but that seems like a stretch. Kulta’s ability to raise the dead is also still unexplained.

A side note: I like how the hawk didn’t immediately become an ally of the Toa after being freed from the skull spider. The hawk instead flew off like most wild animals would after being freed. It was fine for the snake and wolves, but would get old if it keeps on happening.
I also have this feeling that Vizuna is Windham’s favorite protector. Whenever you need a protector to show up, it’s almost always him or relates to him in some way. Not really a criticism, just a trend I keep noticing in his books. Am I the only one noticing this? Maybe green is is favorite color. Who knows?

Overall, this book wasn’t bad, despite my nitpicks of it, but it wasn’t a must-see either. Give it a read if you want to, but you won’t miss out on much if you don’t.

See, this is my biggest problem with the book: it adds almost nothing to the story of G2 as a whole. ROSS gave some much needed development to the Protectors, insight into the “culture” of Skull Spiders, and some information about the Creatures. It enhanced the overall story of G2 and made the world feel more fleshed out.

This book doesn’t do any of that. Sure, we learn about Kulta’s origins, but it’s so brief and unsurprising–I mean, many of us already predicted that the Skull villains were invaders who came to conquer Okoto months ago.

Also, I think it’s pretty much confirmed that Makuta’s body is buried somewhere in the ravine, near the Skull Raiders’ underground city. I mean, on the summer sets’ box art, Umarak is apparently digging in a dark, rocky region–much like the location of the underground city. Plus, when one of the Toa asks if Makuta might be buried there, Ekimu admits that he does not know.

Guys, I have sad news. I went to the Lego Store today and asked an employee about Bionicle’s end. He gave a hearty laugh, then picked up a Star Wars constraction set and threw it at me. It knocked me clean in my right eye (which still hurts). He kicked me in the stomach, causing me to fall to the floor. “Bonkles ded m8”, he said. “Been that way for years.” I called 911 and told them the situation. The operator laughed, questioning why I thought Bionicle still had hope. I hung up, and just cried. The store closed before I could get out. I am currently typing this by an empty Bionicle aisle.

Thought some humor would break up the doom and gloom.

If was given false information I deeply apologize for starting any sort of trouble as my sole intention was to form the community about what I had heard. I would not lie about this sort of thing, I would hate and probably pass it off as trolling or just plain lying if somebody did the same thing as me. I understand what you are saying and I think that is the proper thing to do if it turns out I am false, as there is no way to genuinely tell if I am legitimate or not.

Alright, discussion is over. Some of you guys are rude beyond comprehension, and if I catch that ever happening again, you will be suspended for a week or more.

Move along, continue discussing the book or literally anything other than this.

Just wondering if there is any likelihood of the JTO DVD including some kind of minifigure or polybag? While it hasn’t normally been the case with Lego seasons/series, several Lego movies (Particularly the Lego Batman/Justice League Movies) have included something with them.

Kind of, Umarak seems to be one of the fundamental forces of Okoto coming into existence presumably at the start of Okoto’s lifespan. If he is removed from the picture then something would probably have to take his place.

Kind of like how i imagine it would happen if one of the Elemental creatures would die, that the Toa (Or Ekimu) would need to sacrifice themselves to become the embodiment of that element to prevent the destabilisation of Okoto. That’s mostly going off the idea that the apocalyptic setting for the Summer wave is caused by the disruption of the fundamental forces of Okoto, the six elements and the darkness.

Another potential option I’ve been mulling over as head canon is the idea that the Mask Of Control could be used to transfer Umarak’s energy to Makuta and in the process of doing so, the energy that was used to keep Umarak’s shadowy form together has been reduced. Given Umarak is mostly a being of shadows, with a Mask Of Shadows, I’m wondering if his energy was disrupted whether it would be a good explanation for his transformation into Umarak The Destroyer rather than just saying that the Mask mutated him because Makuta wanted it to or simply because he was unable to control its power.

####is it just me or does it seem the writers got the mutation idea mixed up with the Mask Of Ultimate Power? Wasn’t it the Mask Of Ultimate Power that mutated/enhanced Makuta - seems they are going the same with the Mask Of Control that mutated/enhanced Umarak.
